If your friends mother has serious illnesses then she needs to take the medication used to help with them. Only a doctor can tell her what to use so maybe you need to suggest them going to the local srs office and applying for health insurance. They shouldn't be embarrassed about it because there's a lot of people in this world that can't afford health insurance. When they get on health insurance it will limit the doctors she can see but they give a variety of choices so it shouldn't be too bad. It usually pays for everything. The most she'll have to pay is maybe 3 dollars, which isn't a lot.
