What is the Intellectual Test & how is it graded?

The Intellectual Test is a fun way for LiveWire to recognize which members have demonstrated their ability to be intellectual pillars of the community. Once you obtain the status, you'll be given access to the Intellectual Forum, and given another badge for your profile!

What are the requirements to pass?

Multiple Choice Portion (20%): This section is very much up to the discretion of the grading moderator. Some moderators will only accept higher-end scores, while others will accept lower-end scores if the free response is extremely well written. Do your best on this section, because even with lenient scorers, typically a score of below 13 will result in your application being rejected.

Free Response Portion (80%): The detailed requirements will be spelled out further on, but there are a few things you need to be aware of first. Keep in mind that the Intellectual Forum is reserved for only the most eloquent of members, so we harshly follow these guidelines, and we will reject your application if they are not adhered to:

- The suggested length is 200-500 words. You must have typed the response specifically for the Intellectual Test (i.e., do not copy any information from any source).
- Grammatically correct. You should demonstrate flawless grammar, syntax, and conventions. We will be looking for proper spelling, capitalization, sentence structure, flow, and coherence.

What should I write about on the free response?

We absolutely expect you to include at least two of the following subjects in your free response to demonstrate your ability to speak intellectually:

  • MANDATORY SUBJECT: Why you wish to be promoted to intellectual status, what prompted you to take the test, and why you think your account should be upgraded.
  • A current event occurring in the world. We expect your well-developed opinion, and what effect you believe the event is having on the world at large.
  • Describe an area of study that deeply interests you. Explain the reason for your interest, and use your eloquence to teach us something about the subject.
  • Tell us whether or not you believe there is such a thing as an unselfish action. Support your argument with your debate skills.
  • Tell us an anecdotal story about your life. Use this subject to demonstrate your exceptional ability to write (use lively, colorful, and exciting language).
  • Feel free to include any other subject that you wish to discuss above and beyond what is listed here in order to show us that you're a viable candidate for the intellectual status.
If you feel you're prepared and qualified, please click here to apply for intellectual status.
