What is the anonymous feature & how do I use it?
The anonymous feature is LiveWire's way of recognizing the need for our users to protect their identity from the rest of the community under special circumstances. It allows for our users to post sensitive information free from the fear of being criticized, ridiculed, or thought differently of by peers. However, it's highly important to note that the feature is strictly reserved for only the most sensitive of information! If used in a malicious or unwarranted way, your topic will be removed and further action may be taken against your account to ensure you understand that abuse of the feature will not be tolerated. It is important to note that users have the option to use their anonymous credits however they wish once the topic in question has been archived. Any usage before that point is considered abuse of anonymous. To check if your topic is archived, scroll to the bottom of the page on any opened topic and click "Go Advanced," then look at the top for a highlighted banner that says your topic has been archived.
How do I use the anonymous feature?
- Replies: To post an anonymous reply, click on the "Go Advanced" button at the very bottom of the topic you wish to reply to. Once you've typed your reply content, simply click on the box beside "Mark my reply anonymous" (directly below the FAQ Keyword Search box). Once you've clicked the box, press the "Add Reply" button to post anonymously. Note: You may use this feature up to 4 times every 24 hours.
- Topics: To post an anonymous topic, begin the same way you would to post any other topic. Once you've typed your topic content, simply click on the box beside "Mark this topic anonymous" (directly below the FAQ Keyword Search box). Once you've clicked the box, press the "Create Topic" button to post anonymously. Note: You may use this feature up to 2 times every 24 hours.
Note: You must have obtained 75 posts to use this feature.
Will anyone know I created the topic or post?
The regular population of LiveWire is unable to see who is behind an anonymous posting. However, due to rampant abuse, LiveWire moderators have been given the ability to check behind an anonymous posting. It is important to note, however, that we strongly value and respect the confidentiality of our members and we are strictly forbidden from needlessly checking behind an anonymous posting unless we suspect abuse.
What counts as abuse of the anonymous feature?
In short, there is one important requirement that needs to be met before you may use the anonymous feature for topic creations. We require that you must be asking for legitimate and serious support or help in some way that you wish to keep private. Simply wanting to post something embarrassing is not adequate reason enough to use the feature. If this stipulation is not met, then you're expected to either use your regular account, or a second account. Our goal is to limit the anonymous feature to only necessary circumstances, not for trivial purposes. It's important to note that if you continuously misuse the anonymous feature, or use it in a malicious way (attacking another user, encouraging harm, etc.), it's very likely it will be deemed an offense.
What if I accidentally mark my topic anonymous?
In the event your topic is accidentally marked anonymous, you should feel free to message a moderator and ask for it to be un-marked. It is vital that you approach a moderator first, as we will not change the anonymous marking unless asked by the creator of the topic. However, please note that this only applies to accidental markings. If it is found that you are abusing the feature, action will still be taken against your account.
