What is a Moderator & how do I become one?

LiveWire is a vast, bustling, and ever growing community with dramatically differing personalities and aspects. Because of this, there is an absolute need for some users to be entrusted with the responsibility of keeping LiveWire peaceful, within guidelines, organized, up to date, and as well as keeping policies fair and logical. Moderators are those people. They pride themselves on always moving the website towards advancement, and always ensuring it remains a great place for young people to spend their time while online.

How do I know who a moderator is?

  1. One way to tell which members are moderators is by their name color, which will appear blue.
  2. Another way is via the LiveWire Staff Page, which lists all of the current moderators and directly links to their profiles for easy viewing.
  3. A third way is through the Active Members page, which lists all of the active moderators. A short cut to this list is on the toolbar tab, directly next to the yellow, blue, and red boxes ().
Why do some moderators have a "NEW" tag () next to their names?

These moderators are the new additions to the LiveWire moderation team. They will remain with this tag until they've been a moderator for 60 days and completed 450 actions. Their ability to moderate, as well, is severely limited during the training process. They are restricted to minuscule moderation tasks (such as accepting avatars) while outside of their designated forums.

How do I become a moderator?

Strictly speaking, there are two pre-requisites that absolutely must be met before you are able to submit an application:
  1. You must become a Peer and/or Tech Support Leader.
  2. You must have attained the rank of Executive ().
However, you should be aware of the fact that there are other factors that will be factored in to your chances of being promoted. For example, your time on LiveWire is an important aspect. LiveWire is not the type of website that you can come to and immediately understand. It takes time to understand the community, the varying and sometimes conflicting aspects, and to generally grasp the website as a whole. You should allow yourself to gradually comprehend the community over a large time frame. Another factor that is heavily considered is your recent behavior record. While no single infraction automatically disqualifies you, a large number of repetitive negative interactions with LiveWire moderators will certainly hinder the process. You should try to keep a relatively clean record if you wish to maximize your chances of being promoted.

Once you feel confident that you've met all of these stipulations, the next step is filling out the moderator application. The application begins with an 'exam' comprised of 36 questions based on your LiveWire moderation understanding, how you handle personal interactions, your supportive nature, and even your grammar skills. The second half of the application is a type of questionnaire, which asks you everything from how you would handle black and white rules, to requesting that you explain your total number of removed replies. The application process is lengthy, but if done correctly, will prove to be highly helpful in achieving your goal.

Note: You can clear your submitted moderator application at any time. To access the clearing page, click on the My Account link on your sidebar (far left/right of your screen), and then click on the link to the far right entitled "Moderator Application."

When will my moderator application be reviewed?

Your application, in most circumstances, will be immediately reviewed by the moderators. They will have the ability, and often times do, to comment on your application either expressing support, concern, or pertinent information. However, the decision is ultimately left to davjs / Spice, LiveWire's administrator and co-administrator. Your application will be reviewed when the need for a new moderator arises, whether it be through a recent demotion or through sheer need for an addition. The choice will be based on the application itself and notes left by moderators.
