What does it mean when a topic is locked?

At times, LiveWire moderators will "lock" a topic, preventing it from receiving more replies. When this happens, this image will appear at the top of the page of the locked topic: , and this image will appear next to the topic title in the forum index: .

What are some of the reasons a topic would be locked?

Since moderators want to foster discussion, they will do everything in their power to prevent from locking a topic. However, there will be unavoidable times when a topic must be locked:

  • Delved Into Spam: If a topic is continuously receiving non-contributory responses, moderators may lock the topic to completely prevent further abuse.
  • Delved Into Flamefest: If a topic falls to repetitive personal attacks (while failing to address a person's counter-points), moderators may lock the topic to preserve the previous discussion.
  • Author Request: If the author of a topic requests a lock and supplies good reason, moderators may honor the request. However, take note that it is very much left up to moderator discretion and the request is often times denied.
Note: If you notice a topic taking a negative turn, we plea with you to report it to the moderators as soon as possible in an effort to salvage the topic before it reaches the point of no return.
