Tagging people in posts/topics.
Nov. 19, 2009 at 7:45pm by L I F E S so G O O D — Guru

Alright.
You know how on facebook, if you type in the symbol @ and then type in said persons name, it tags them and they get a notification?

How about we have something like that here on lw?
If someone types your name using the proper livetag in a topic or reply, you get an alert saying so.
I'm thinking something like this..

davjs mentioned your name in topic title.

And if it is a reply in a topic, then have the url in the alert be the reply in the topic.

Yay?
or nay?

IB Privacy and Profile Tracker.
Nov. 19, 2009 at 9:59am by ASS FUCK SUPREME — Connoisseur

1) If you aren't logged in, you shouldn't be able to view member IBs. Everything else is private but that.
2) Since there's a topic tracker for sustainers. We should be able to monitor our profile trackers as well.

Revised moderator system
Nov. 18, 2009 at 3:14am by awesome10 — Wealthy Hobo

All moderators who view anonymous topics should not see the identity of posters automatically. The moderator should have to click a button, Which will bring them to a form that requires them to submit a reason why they want to see the identity. All of the viewings should be submitted into a log and someone should observe the log at the end of the week/month and question any moderators who have an unusually high amount of viewings.

lw tag
Nov. 15, 2009 at 8:34pm by majorwolf — Executive

let me explain how it would work:

it would start with one person randomly chosen to be "it". once they're "it" their username would turn purple
(possibly also something thats says "it" where the sl and sustainer things are).

when they post in a topic, the person who created the topic would be "it".

then their username would turn normal and the other persons would turn back to its usual color. also they would get a message or alert explaining the rules.

if  person who is it isn't active or doesn't post in any topics for a day, then another random person is chosen to be it

thats pretty much it.

Email Feature = Too Limited!!!
Nov. 15, 2009 at 8:21pm by dreamweaver — Fight it...

David, as I know you severely limited the original feature after realizing you needed to cut back on a lot of features back a few year's ago in order to keep the site going as smoothly as possible... it has left the email feature rather pointless for everyone on here. Since 2001, when you first created this site with your buddy, many things have come out that are just simply incredible and awesome- for example, gmail and it's seemingly neverending pit of space for it's users emails. Anyway, back to the main point---

Limit the email system to just the mod team and just get rid of it for the normal member. The mods could use it when dealing with offsite issues in order to look professional and to maintain the professional manner. Right now, the average member don't know how to use our current email system, therefore leaving it completely pointless... and well, going against your original intentions when you first limited the feature by instituting ways to prevent spam and abuse.

Message storage adjustments
Nov. 14, 2009 at 6:35am by awesome10 — Wealthy Hobo

For messages that are stored it should be able to store the whole recent messages part too without having to also save them so they are viewable. Kind of bad when you have to save a whole conversation and it takes up 25%+ of your storage. The storage limit is too small :(

Explicit Type Idea
Nov. 14, 2009 at 12:16am by awesome10 — Wealthy Hobo

There should be an icon added next to threads that contain a video, Simmilar to the [E] that is used to mark explicit topics. This would avoid members viewing topics that only contain a music video or something like that.

Link on side of topic *IDEA*
Nov. 13, 2009 at 1:29pm by wcm wrestling3 — Quality Control Engineer

Ok, I think there should be a space on the side of a topic..

*EX;
link

This way the link that are to long and don't post correctly will be able to work.

Ok, so before people start saying "YOU CAN TINYURL LINKS! DURRR". I know you can, but unlike most people, I don't click on tinyurl links unless I know the person. Cause I do not trust tinyurl links.

I already know this idea was suggested before at least once (because I suggested it on my old account). But, I just thought I would bring it up again, for the fact that long URLs still suck when trying to post them into a topic.

*EDIT; HAD TO TAKE THE PICTURE OUT BECUASE IT WOULDNT LOAD*

points til next level
Nov. 11, 2009 at 4:34pm by majorwolf — Executive

on the page for point transfers i think that we should put how many points that person has til the next level. it would encourge people to give more points and would make it easier for people to rank them up.

Whiteboards
Nov. 8, 2009 at 9:50am by Public Enemy 69 — Nigga what the f*ck is Juice?

I don't understand why we are able to write on our whiteboards. It's embarassing when you make a mistake in a whiteboard conversation and end up writing on our own.

Delete the option please.

Quizzes and LiveWire.

I think making, or taking a quiz should be part of out basic memberlist. This will encourage more members to participate in the quizzes aspect of the site.

Avatar link
Nov. 4, 2009 at 12:54am by Sanctum — Executive

When you click someones avatar or name, you should be redirected to either the user's profile or IB.

This not only saves time for us lazy people, but also makes the site more accessible and user-friendly.

Putting punctuation in Membernames.
Nov. 3, 2009 at 1:50pm by K r e s c e n d o — Guru

I, for one, would like to have an exclamation mark in my name. But, unfortunetly, it can't be done.

It would be nice.

I think that when someone clicks on a posted link it should open in a new window instead of directing you away from LW.

"Thanks" button
Oct. 30, 2009 at 6:46am by KevinAMcDonald — Quality Control Engineer

Maybe you should add a thanks button, where you click it and it says that you (and if other people did, them too) thanked the person for that post.  It could also show on their profile how many times they got thanked, and maybe even give them a point for getting thanked or something.

When a reply is quoted
Oct. 29, 2009 at 5:25am by Forsaken Memories — Technician

When a reply is quoted, you should get an alert. There's been too many times when I've had a quote (on my old account) and missed it completely.

GLBT friendly gender/sexuality options.
Oct. 28, 2009 at 4:15pm by Medicated Smile — Executive

The current gender and sexuality options - though far better than most options on the Internet - could use a few updates.

For gender, it would be awesome if you could make it:
Male, Female, FtM, MtF, Inter-sexed, Androgynous, other, etc.  Or a write in your own option. But including the off-the-spectrum genders would be great, as it's not that I'd "rather not say".  At the very least, adding "trans-gendered" and "other" would be a step forward.

For sexuality, not much ought to change:
Please remove the trans option.  It's not a sexuality, it's a gender... It gets confused enough as it is.  Adding pan-sexual would be good, but other than that, it's fine as it is.

rename report option
Oct. 28, 2009 at 1:41pm by hithere — Novice

In the misconduct report reason menu, "Drug Forum Content Violation" should be changed to something like "Subforum-specific rule violation" in order to apply to all forums that have specific rules.

I feel really stupid every time I report a topic in the School & Homework Connection forum where somebody is trying to get help cheating on schoolwork, because there is no reason in the menu.

Ability to see pics while being aproved
Oct. 23, 2009 at 2:35pm by Juggalotus — Guru

It would be a good idea to make it so people can click the image uploading icon before the pic has been approved. That way people who don't care if it is not appropriate can see the pic without having to wait.

Penalty Points Log
Oct. 20, 2009 at 2:06pm by eklipse — à la folie

This topic was somewhat inspiring towards this idea.

It seems that some members don't exactly remember how or when they were given their penalty points and that mods aren't able to find exactly how either. So my suggestion would be to have a penalty point log (much similar to say the transfer log) in which it accounted for:

  • Which mod added the penalty points to an account
  • Why they were added to an account
  • When they were added to an account
It's not really "needed" to say, but it would help organize some things and allow members to reflect as to why certain things happened when they happened. As well as making it easier for a mod to direct a member to the reasonings behind them having their penalty points.

add buttons to drop-down menus
Oct. 18, 2009 at 9:45am by robbie123 — Dairy Product Addict

most people probably wouldn't use this, but it would help people like me who are blind and use specialist equipment to browse the web (which run pocket IE6) if there were buttons like "go" or something like that added to drop-down menus. take the favourite forums feature for example: i can change the selection in the drop-down menus, but i have no way of saving my changes so i am stuck with some random forums. this also applies to the actions menu in profiles: i am unable to make a selection which means i cannot transfer points for example unless the member in question sends me a link i can use to send them points. this feature could be enabled/disabled in the appearance settings or something like that and would be available to all members, regardless of donation status or sl/mod status.
