so my best friend was talking to me (he's a guy btw). he was asking for some advice and guidence to help him out. he was saying that he has a crush on a girl. he likes girls and stuff, and he seems pretty normal. but he was telling me that he was thinking that he was gay and i was like "why?". and he said that ever since like 7th or 8th grade he's been seeing guys "differently" and became attracted to them. he said that he didn't have a crush on any guys, he still likes that girl, but he finds guys hott too. and like, he's the type of person who like to joke around a lot and it took a lot of balls for him to actually be serious and talk to me about him and stuff. he was just wondering if he was going throught some sort of phase or if this is something that he's gonna have to get used to

It's completely normal to be confused about one's sexuality.
Tell him that it could be a phase, but maybe not. Ask him if he could see himself being in a relationship with a guy and whatnot.
Just talk to him about it, ask him questions, kind of like he's talking it out in his own mind, except you're allowing him to think about it outloud.

FYI, 'Sexual Identity' implies gender, not orientation. It's just a tad confusing is all.

It could either be a phase, or be his life's way.
It's completely normal to go through a phase and like this, and it's completely normal not to.
You've just got to reassure him you're going to be there for him and support him no matter what. That his sexual orientation does not matter.
He needs to know there is nothing wrong with this =] PM me if you want to talk further.

Labels are dangerous. I would strongly suggest that you be honored that he would respect and trust you enough to discuss this topic with you. Keep it between you and him and you will be rewarded.
I would suggest that you tell him the topic is between you and him and suggest that he be patient in sorting out his sexuality. During the period of 13-18 hormones are up and down and what he may be experiencing may go away. Key word is MAY! If it doesn't it's no problem.

Remember, there are more sexualityd than just "Gay and Straight". Not everyone is just one, most people aren't.
Confusions is normal, and it takes guts to say it. Make sure he knwos you accept him and won't tell anyone if he dosn't want you to.
