I've done research (not extensive) on the pattern that condemned the Roman Empire. I've noticed several parallels between the rise and fall of the Roman Empire, and the United States...

Of course, the United States was the most powerful military force in the world around about when the Vietnam fuse was ignited. Since, morale has been considerably low, and worldwide popularity... doesn't really even exist. Our military is still strong, but I think we are outsourcing ourselves. Not to mention the debt we're in...

The USA is still a relatively young country; I believe it's possible for it to fail. In the past, democracy has proved to lead to revolutions, civil wars, and the ultimate destruction of the establishment in question.

Does anybody else predict a painful repitition of history?

I definately think it will happen again, but I usually relate to the much more recent fall of European Imperialism

Pretty much eveyone predicts a painful repetition of history. It's less an idea than a commonly accepted fact. Entropy claims all things.

Its obviously going to fall. Not in the bloody way the Romans did, but it will fall. One of the major reasons the Romans were so defenseless was that their capital was so far out of reach, that it was hard to communicate. It got too big for its own good. Well, we have the internet and telephones. The United States will still exist, but will be much like the UK in that we aren't going to be a super power or a major military force. China will soon be taking over our roll, possibly within the next 30 or 40 years.

Hmm yeah, that pretty much sums it up.  China might need a few more decades, but it's getting there.  Their Navy and Airforce are inferior, but they're catching up fast.  I think there will be something of the effect as the cold war, or something similar between us and China.  I don't think we'll exactly win the next time though.  We seem to always just get lucky, you can't do that forever.  Our time will come and we will fall as any other empire has just maybe not completely like you said, but we can't be on our high throne forever.

Rome fell because of incompetent leadership. A string of horrid emperors, generals fighting each other and a lack of prioritization by the general civil servants. Rome also spread itself its military thin and that was centuries before it fell.

America can avoid a similar fate by having its citizens press for important concerns (debt anyone), competent leadership and sparse use of military.

Canada will invade... with what? broken submarines, and ancient helicopters

We should adopt the american army slogan, just imagine it....

Canada - The Army Of One - makes a whole lot more sence then the current one we have :P

What's declining is not our military supremacy so much as economic supremacy. Regardless of all the problems our military is facing with achieving the political objectives of the Bush administration, it's going to remain the single most powerful force for around 50 years.

But an economic collapse is far more feasible and immediate. While all the world relies on fossile fuels, we're far less equipped to deal with the global oil shortage than other developed countries. And if there is another superpower rising to take our place, China has got a long ways to go - yes, they're growing, but I doubt they can keep it up at such a pace. I think we're most likely to see the EU (despite all of its issues) emerge as worlds most powerful economy.

It's not that our military is weakening, it's that China is catching up.  As you stated, they have a long way to go, true.  Rome didn't fall in a day either of course so I don't expect anything immediate, just the gradual decline we have been experiencing.  The EU, yes I believe I can see them up there with superpower status but it will be hard because those countries still have issues between each other.  They disagree alot so it has been difficult to organize between each other.  If they can become more efficent to work together then I agree with you on the EU.  China has been accelerating rather fast if you consider where it was 30 years ago, it has come a long way in such a short time.  I agree on the U.S. being ill-prepared, I can't understand how the government can take such a chance.  It's those kind of things that are gradually adding on to it's downfall

Well, don't forget this, either. The military is screwed when it comes to recruitment. They're lowering the bar for entry more and more each year. I think we're definatley going to see a lowering in the quality of the military, which could lead to several more issues.
