A few dozen verses pray to thee,
A thousand more shall follow,
So let be! This the hundredth,
And listen close to me, as I
Speak to thee of fallow love,
As what aspires to be, an affair
Termed “l’amour’”! behold, my decree:

Here dost lie my coaxing, so listen
To my plea: that with each and every
Moment – that I shalt forever see:
The face that launched a thousand ships,
And set peace to warring states,
Thou beauty dwarfs even Aphrodite’s,
And caused a million insanities.

Will ever a man, not fondle thee with delight?
Or tremble in ecstasy from a mild caress?
For thou art a being who will always excite,
Another to this, I must confess.

Thou voice sings, sweet melodious tunes,
More gentle than the whispers of the morning breeze,
More beautiful then the songs of afternoons,
More ecstatic then the battle cries of three.

Should ever the blind behold,
Thy person, thy aroma, shall unfold
True beauty, And thy scent alluring,
All the creatures, thy trail, following.

And if ever, shall men feast upon thee,
A million men will go feast in gluttony! Thou
Art more luscious than all of nature’s sweets combined;
Evermore so, with every breath, and breath left behind.

Comment and Criticize. :)

I like it- very Romantic (the period, not the description, although it is that too).

Have you ever read the works of John Donne? Although he was a Metaphysical, not a Romantic, his works had the same sense of passion and the faint touch of the burlesque (perhaps more of a touch in the case of Elegy: To His Mistress Going To Bed).

I think you should read them, if you haven't already.

May I inquire as to whom the lady in question was?

Ah. Well, I still recommend you read his works.

Afterall, his main conceits were sex, religion and sex and religion, with a smattering of love throughout.

Sounds like an interesting course.

Woah, that was awesome! Some of the lines rhymed really well, and didn't seem "forced" either. Well done!
