As I almost always say when people don't want to risk losing a friend, go for it. If you think there's any chance at all, you should take it because it will probably turn out the best for you. If she is one of your best friends, you might want to think it through quite a bit more.
The thing is, I don't really know if you would "lose" your friendship just because it might turn out badly. You guys will most likely get over it sometime.
But at least talk to her about it I think, it might even be worse if you just suppress your feelings.
