Okay, last year I bought a mic for my computer(Not a USB one, it connected through the mic jack) And it would never work. I figured it was a defect or something and never gave it a second thought, never reurned it or anything. So today I went out and bought a headset with a mic on it. Surprise surprise, the headphones work, but the mic doesn't. Its in the right jack and everything, but every time I try and record, I get nothing. The 'Microphone' thing in the audio settings is NOT on Mute, its turned up all the way or near it, and another settings thing that came up has it checked off next to "Select" I consulted Labtec's website, and followed its instructions on what to do if the mic isn't working. Didnt fix it.. What the hell is wrong with it? Is the sound card halfly dead, because the speakers work... Please help. I dont feel like hunting for a USB mic(Which I have yet to find) considering I only have one USB port :P

What sound card do you have, and how old is it. Plus have you installed all the drivers?

Maybe there's a switch to allow the sound to come through the mic, or plug it in another audio jack. If I didn't help, keep trying to fix the problem.

There's no switch. And there's only 2 jacks. One for the speakers, one for the mic. Ive tried reversing them.

Hmmm, I'm not exactly sure, it can be any number of problems. - Bad sound card. - Broken jack. - Bad drivers. - Or just a simple problem in windows. First of all, make sure the mic is plugged into the pink jack (if they're all black, then mic, or Line In). Make sure the 'Line In' 'Mic' and 'Line Out' (sometimes that may fix the prob) volumes on volume control are all up atleast 1/4 and un-muted. Make sure the mic is plugged in ALL the way, and is in the pink jack. Then try it out. If it doesn't work, double check and see if your speakers are working. If they're, then go to 'Control Panel', click on 'Sound and Audio Devices' go to the voice tab, and at 'Voice Recording', make sure that it is set to your default sound card (the same as the one on voice playback. Then go to the tab next to it, 'Audio', and make sure all of those are set to the same card. Then try it, and let me know if that works.
