I'm a high school senior and going into college in Fall. I'm applying for the FAFSA student aid, but would like an idea of how much I will get from them.

My parents make decent money (about 30k before taxes) but we pay 517.00$ USD in child support so that really leaves us with nothing at each month. There is no way I could dish out 100$ USD for books or something and I just hope the government sees that.

Anyways, my boyfriend's sister gets aid from the government and her school because her mom hardly makes any money (about 10k a year before taxes) and they sent money left over from college to her house (which she spent on clothes and stupid stuff).

I am just curious on how much I will get to help pay for college or if they'd send any to my home.

I would like to know what you all get from FAFSA and if you get to see any of it. Thank you :)

It depends on your Expected Family Contribution or EFC

I have no idea how much they'll send you- I don't think there's a way to figure out the exact amount you'll get.

You can't even fill out the FAFSA until January, though, so no point worrying now :P

I would expect to get nothing from FASFA, as nearly none of my friends, or myself, got anything.

If you are not under the poverty line, don't expect any give-outs from the government.

I get like $2500 a semester, thats a lot more than normal though, If I'm thinking of what you're talking about.  I got that for a bunch of reasons.. I'm adopted, my parents are retired, blah blah but it just depends on a bunch of stuff

just get it done as soon as possible, if you dont get anything from them, theres always stafford loans. u will have to repay them, but not until 6months after you graduate or drop below half-time in college. i have a student loan now. also look at your colleges financial aid website, and most have links to many scholarships. theres money out there, you just have to fill out some forms and maybe write an essay. good luck!

The best way to find out is to get it all filled out and turned in on time.  And I mean ON TIME so you are still eligible for anything you can get.

I get the maximum you can get each year which is either $6000 or $8000 (I really don't remember) because my family income is much below the poverty line.

Good luck finding books for $100. For just this coming semester it's $1000 using things like half.com. Had I bought from the bookstore, it would have been $1450. That's for 5 classes, on top of the $46000 a year tuition, room and board, and plane fare.

I don't hear about many families getting much. And $100 for books? This semester mine were $400.

I get everything, full pell grant, seog grant, etc. But it's just me and my mom and we are below poverty line since she doesn't really work (except occasionally helping this lady out with some sewing, and she takes my great-aunt's mother to doctor's appts and washes her clothes and stuff) because my mom is on disability and she's retired. We also get a piss poor amt of child support from my dad.

Kayling, that's great.  Not many people quality for Pell grant. FAFSA is a joke and doesn't really measure the fact that we live in California and the cost of housing is quite a bit more than other parts of the country.  I argued with a FAFSA rep who said they use 50 iterations of the FAFSA to get the EFC.  I didn't believe him.  I think they use a dart board.
