I've seen fraternaties in movies, but I don't really know what they are.  Are they exactly like what you see in the movies? How are they different?  What do you do in them?

They're basically just a club. People join it, hang out, party, meet people, make friends, just general stuff. There are different kinds that focus on different things: partying, drinking, community service, good grades, business, sciences, law, etc.

When/if you go to collect then if youw ant check out the frats on your campus, you may or may not find one that you like.

frats are groups of guys while soritories(sp?) are girls... thats the main difference, and its just a group of people who are for one thing in general... like foot ball or something...

Yeah, but most of those are business/pre-med/etc. frats. Most of the social groups are single-sex.

I wanted to join a sorority, but then I actually came to college, saw what the sororities were like at my campus, and decided not to.

when do you pledge?

There is Formal Rush, which is in the fall (this is normally the biggest rush of the year, it's really a big deal, the frats and sororities do all these programs and parties and stuff) and then there's Informal Rush in the spring I believe.

You pledge sororities as well.

Yup thats correct.

I went through Fall Rush my freshmen year. It was pretty interesting going through the different houses. The sorority I wanted to join [Delta Gamma] actually was/is a fraternity, because the founders were guys. But its really only for girls. I ended up not joining due to time management and money issues. They were the only house that wasnt full of artificial girls.
