Has he not seen the ton of posts that have been made against his moderators; Saying either that they are never on or don't moderate when they are on? I have honestly never seen davjs on so I don't know how often he actually is on this site to see these topics. He can't be that oblivious though. Of all ppl that should be posting a reply in the topics against MOD's it should be him. I have nothing againt davjs. After all he brought us livewire this great site. But he is slowly letting it fall to pieces in my opinion. There is way too much spaming going on here topics that have gone on way longer than they should have with nothing in them but stupid shit like "your mom sucks balls" and then the person below would respond something like this "no you mom sucks my dad's balls". I have seen countless spammy topics like this go unnoticed. I am sick of it. I understand that not all the MOD's can be on all the time to police this place. But you can't tell me that with all the great developers davjs has working for him he couldn't create a couple MOD bots to be on here constantly and at least not let these spammy ass topics go unnoticed. As far as I am concerned he either needs to create MOD bots or get more MOD's that can be on for longer periods of time. This is bullshit. Half the time when I come on there is 1 MOD on if I'm lucky most of the time there are 0 online. You CAN'T tell me that we don't have enough ppl from different time zones on here that could be MOD's with all the ppl we have on this site there is no reason we shouldn't have at least 3 MOD's on at one time. I don't care who agrees with this post and who doesn't the main person I want to see this is davjs and the MOD's can tell him that. I am SICK AND TIRED of seeing all these topics about how bad the MOD's are and seeing spammy useless topics go on when they should have been locked from the start. I think I am not alone in saying I won't be on this site much longer if the MOD activity doesn't pick up! Please Note: I AM NOT putting anyone down. I appreciate very much what the MOD's that are online do. I made this simply to bring this to davjs attention.

We're pushing for improvements that make our time more efficient and that of trolls and spammers less efficient.

The long term solution is not to throw more "mod time" at it, given that a huge amount of time is invested by mods as it is.

And we get pissed off by people saying "camp in front of your computer - screw your jobs and your lives - modding livewire is your job" as well somehow

Well we probably need more mods! I mean, that would make sense

yes, i hope that livewire can return to what it used to be, and regain its honour. It's sad that not many members actually cared for others.

I'm not saying camp in front of your computer. But the size of the MOD team compared to the size of this site is pathetic.

David is aware of those topics and I am sure he reads most of them. But most of them are made after a member has a post removed and is mad, once they cool down, they usually have nothing against Mods.

Also, about seeing David online, he is usually on a lot. Right now he is doing finials so of course he is going to put more time into those.

As for the spam, we try to keep it under control and we are trying to find new ways of dealing with it. We can't guarantee 3 mods will be on at a time because our schedules change. I used to be on late at night every day, now I am on in the morning more. We have lives to work around and many of us are working full time or in full time school with part time jobs.

So while we want to do our best, and meet all your needs, and all your rants, sometimes we have to go do real life things. Like laundry, work, pay bills and eat.

Oh, and we do have a Mod bot. It takes care of approving and inactivating Livewire links.

You haven't been on here long enough to appreciate what the mods do actually do.

You are just stating what you think they don't do.

They have a life, and don't sit on the computer all day. The mods also work as a team, therefore it takes longer to pass bans etc.

To quote from Eddie:

Here is how I see it:

The Moderators are not lazy. While I will say that some Moderators aren't pulling their weight in Moderating the Forums, this is certainly no easy task as there is a lot to do when it comes to Moderating. Let's take a look at some facts:

   * To date (at the time of this post) there have been 362,617 topics created and 6,018,574 replies. That roughly averages out to 152.84 topics and 2,537 replies that are created every single day.
   * Between the Teen, College and Tech Forums there are 65 sub-forums that need to be moderated. Naturally the Teen Forum is the busiest with the most members, topic and replies every day.
   * There are currently 89,096 members on LiveWire and only 29 Moderators, which is a ratio of 3,072 members for each Moderator (3072:1). While a lot of those members are not active, there have been nearly 2,000 members active today alone.

The Moderators of LiveWire have personal lives and do not spend their time on LiveWire 24/7. They do it on a volunteer basis and do not get paid for their time in any way, shape or form. They are restricted in some areas of their job because it takes a quorum of Moderators to conduct some actions, such as banning a member. Why is that? Because they are a team, they work as a team, they discuss things as a team and they decide on actions as a team. If there is a troll online spamming the forums with useless crap, racism, advertisements or otherwise violating the Forums, it takes five Moderators to vote on whether to ban that member or not. This is not also something that they have a say on, as it was David's idea to have it at five.

There are however, things you can do to help the Moderators do their job:

   * If you see a post that is in violation of the LiveWire Guidelines, send in a report that will allow the Moderators to view that post and take the appropriate action. The Moderators rely on your eyes as well in helping to keep the Forums user friendly for everyone to use as they cannot view every single reply that is posted, especially when there are trolls spamming at an alarming rate.
   * If you feel a Moderator is not doing their job properly and you can justify your claim with actual proof, send a Moderator Error Report or send a PM to David and let him deal with the situation. He too is a busy person and cannot baby-sit the Moderators, as he has hand selected them based on their application and feels that they are competent enough to do their job and do it well.
   * If you see a member constantly posting racist remarks or spamming the forums with crap, send them a PM and politely ask them to stop what they are doing because they are ruining the Forums for everyone else.
   * Stop posting degrading remarks yourself. This thread was created to pick on the Moderators and there were several replies where people offered no advice and often insulted one another, including the thread starter being guilty of this:

Quote: from Another Chance at 8:28 pm on Dec. 11, 2006

YOU SHUT THE FUCK UP, YOU DUMB FUCK!

   * If you want to clean up the Forums, stop posting stupid crap like that. People only say things like that because they can hide behind their monitor and know that nobody can do anything about it. There are many more polite ways that person could have phrased his comments, but he decided to take the rude route.

In sumnation, stop blaming the Moderators as they do what they can, with the tools that they have in the time that they have. Of the 29 Moderators, five (5) of them are new, which means they can only Moderate certain Forums and if they're assigned to a Forum in the College Forums and one in the Tech Forums, and someone is spamming the Teen Sexuality Forum while they're the only Moderator online, they can't do anything about it, in regards to editing or deleting posts. They can only PM the member and ask them to stop or wait patiently for a Senior Moderator to come online and assist them with the situation.

You may feel that the Moderators run the site, but they're not the only ones. The members run it as well, with the topics and replies that they create. They are the ones who choose to post what they do and create the useless things that they do. I'm sick of all the racist comments, derogatory comments as well as a lot of you are, but I'm also sick of people blaming the Moderators for not doing their job.

But not everyone that applies for moderator is acceptable. Also, some of those accounts, in fact many are inactive. So you can't go by the number of the members at the top of this page.
