I cannot seem to change my wallpaper. It has locked me out of it. Windows Defender is also claiming some virus is present in my system. I remove it, but it comes back. Assistance?

Perhaps so. However I don't have the time at the moment for it to complete.

AVG Free Edition of Antivirus and Anti-spyware should sort you out.

Something might be messing with it in the background.. press ctrl

alt delete, Hit all three of them at same time.. Then go to

processes, Look where it says cpu if it is in the 70-100% then it

means you could have a virus. Look for the program that is

running up the cpu, Right click on it and select "End Process tree".

After you do that see if it lets you pick a screensaver or whatever it is you were getting.

No, I meant by it being the actual wallpaper. The image in the background of the desktop.

I did and it didn't work. Everything is running the way it should; but I'm still locked out of my wallpaper options.

2. The problem you describe is a symptom of the SpySheriff/Smitfraud group of infections; here's the specific fix for regaining full functionality of your desktop properties:

Download the smitfraud.reg file by right-clicking on this link and choosing "Save link as..." or "Save target as..." from the resulting pop-up menu. Save the file to your desktop.

- Double-click the smitfraud.reg file you saved, and when it asks if you want to merge with the registry, click YES.

- Reboot your computer; your display properties should be returned to normal.
