I'm currently making a website (well, it'll actually be distributed on CD, but that doesn't matter - it's coded using HTML and is viewed using a browser).  I want there to be music playing throughout the time the user has the browser window open - even when they use hyperlinks to change the page that they're viewing.  Is there any way that you know of to do this?

NB. I was thinking a small frame at the bottom containing just the sound, but that might screw my whole layout up.

the frame idea i think its the best way to go, u can even make it invisible and it shouldn't mess the layout

I was going to say, make sure you have a way for them to mute or stop it.  It starts to annoy me after a bit when music is playing.

Do you know flash? Make a small player and put it in a frame, maybe at the top of the page or something.

You could just create your links and banner and footer on one page, have a frame to display content in the middle, put your music in the bottom part of either navigation menu.

So, all the responses are to do with frames.  Hmm... I'll have to alter the general site layout, but hey, it's all good!  Hopefully it'll work properly.

Well, the player needs to be in it's own browser window or in a frame for it to continually play.

Hmm... it's own browser window.  That's a possibility.

Personally I find automatic sound on a website very annoying, it's the sort of thing you always seem to run across on myspace and it's always a terrible, terrible song.

But if you're really set on it then maybe like someone said, have it come up in a new window so it'll keep playing and it can still be stopped if need be. If it comes up in the background then whoever is browsing the site can have an amusing hunt-the-stop-button for a while until they realise it's in a new window.

Depending on how the website is being set up, you could use AJAX to request the content of different pages (and display it neatly on the page) while keeping the actual website loaded on the same index.html

AJAX for the upper area of the page such as header, content, sidebar, etc and then have a small flash player in the footer.  Simple and effective if people want to turn off music, they can do so easily.

You might check out this link.
