Right, here's the deal:
Computer boots up just fine, and I can easily access the internet and other functions. I am, however, a dedicated gamer, and whenever I start up FS2004 (or FSX), and begin a flight, as soon as my wheels leave the ground I get a BSOD and a BAD_POOL_HEADER error - but no drivers are named. Recently my computer commited suicide and the HDD was formatted, my OS reinstalled. This problem still persists after the HDD was formatted. I have tried swapping out my RAM, and both of my 512 sticks are fine. Apparently Daemon Tools can cause errors of this nature, so I uninstalled Daemon Tools, and the error still persists. I have also noticed this error in several other games, although they appear more randomly than in flight sim, where within 0-2s of being airborne, it dies. I have also tried swapping out my graphics card, which is an nVidia GeForce 6600 (I know it's old...I need to replace that anyway), but when this error began, I hadnt changed hardware, or drivers in a long time. After the error began I updated my display and soundcard drivers, to no effect. The next thing I am going to do is flash the BIOS, but I'm slightly terrified of screwing that up - PC's dont boot without a BIOS!
Oh, and the services.msc file is set to manual, as it should be.

umm...not an option. and as I said, this isnt limited to flight sim.
Why is it not an option? because I'm quite a serious flightsimmer, with over 2000 hours of flying over the years. I've spent somewhere in the region of £500 on various commercial addons, and as you might guess, I dont want it them just sitting there, doing nothing. Plus I fly for a VA, which again makes 'playing a different game' not an option.

If it happens only during the game, it sounds like a graphics card issue.  What are your computer specs?

has this always been happening even before you updated the driver?

The problem started happening in a period where I hadnt done anything to my computer for about a week, no driver updates, no new installations. So yes, the problem began before I installed the new drivers, otherwise I'd have just rolled it back. The thing is, though, that the problem is still here after the entire hard drive being formatted...which would make it seem like a hardware error...that said, everything looks pretty dandy inside. I've already tried swapping out RAM and Gfx gard. What do you think about the BIOS idea?

It has been reinstalled, when the hard drive was formatted. IL2 Sturmovik works okay, so some stuff does work. It must be something that these games are using in particular. Do you know if, after formatting the hard drive, the BIOS is left untouched? If it was, then it'd be my prime suspect. I have already been expermenting with the BIOS, changing one thing at a time and then checking if the problem is resolved...no luck.

Yeah...me too, pretty much. Tomorrow I'll update the BIOS, and if anything is corrupted etc... within it, then it should be fixed.

If there is a problem with the BIOS, then things should be significantly worse than that, as in the computer should be unbootable. So updating the BIOS is probably a waste of time.
