Stop making fucking quote-trees. Quote the post above you, and that's it. One thing that fundamentally separates us from typical animals is our ability to appreciate aesthetics. The fact that we can appreciate an object for it's artistic value is something that we can only do given our superior brains. Art is ALL AROUND YOU, whether you like it or not. The ads you see on television, the television itself, the computer monitor you look into, hell, the layout of this site could even be looked on as art. And after all, every member is in charge of their own color scheme on LW. The OP is a hypocrite simply in the sense that he has a color preference. The decision to use one color background over the other suggests artistic discrimination.

First you have to define what art is before you ask such a question. Is making the bigger more powerful bomb not an art for some people. And the tvs...first of all, if you think that are (in the traditional sense I'm assuming) is a waste of time, what is tv? Also what goes on tv? Art. Art does help mankind, speeches, books, those things do help mankind. Do you know Roosevelt's fireside chats? If that is not art, please tell me what is. Art is also used to show the feelings and events of the times, without Art we would know a lot less about history, and that does effect mankind. Everything is art m8, for someone somewhere. Plus who says the human race should advance, in away our "advancement" got us into more trouble then its worth. Go to Africa and South East Asia if you want to see the devistating effects of "advancement". We are but robots if all we do is advance ourselves all the time. Why should we continue to advance ourselves, so we can then advance ourselves more? What is the enjoyment in that. Also we will have no creativity, that does not seem like an advancement, hello, that is what makes the human race so interesting and actually able to advance technologically with creative ideas for new things. If we try to curb that for just bigger and stronger we won't advance it will turn into another cold war. We won't advance we will just be bigger and stronger, not newer and more innovative. Plus education won't be as enjoyable because it will just be "make money" or "make it bigger and stronger" and so people will be less educated because they will be less interested. Excuse me for using God in a logical argument, but we were given brains for a reason. If we wanted advancement we could build robots to live for us, but that is not what life is about. If you respond to this don't brake it up and cut stuff out so that you twist my words, thats cheap tactics and doesn't belong in intellectual forums, I will not respond unless you respond to my argument in its entirety and original format. First, breaking it apart is to make the organization better. It makes it easier to read and is not a cheap tactic. It is what one might call a point by point rebuttal, but if you're going to be a whinny bitch, so be it. FUCK SEMANTICS

Enough said. Advancement, is not Africa and SE. Africa is the lack of science and math to advance their culture. That is why they are so fucked up. Advancement keeps that from happening. In the oh so wonderful USA we don't have Malaria, as much TB, we got rid of small pox, AIDS is nowhere near as big an issue, no ebola, no yellow fever, etc. We have technology that makes our life better due to math and science. Our continued advancement makes our life better. If we were still making sculptures of Zeus, we would be living without electricity or computers or much else. God...I do not accept that God necessarily exists so that point is moot in my book. No we can't build robots to live for ourselves. It doesn't quite work that way.
