War creates progress? I agree it has in some cases, but to say that in general, is far from accurate.
And if you look around, preferrably taking of your blinders, you would notice art is applied nearly everywhere. Granted, a lot can be percieved pointless and in some cases is, but a lot has had an effect on many things.
If you lived in a world where you just used science or you just used art, progress would take a lot longer or would hault.

If you're going to make a topic in the intellectual forum then you've got to be up for a little bit of debate and not have a stick-your-fingers-in-your-ears-im-right-your-wrong mentality.

As for the actual art thing.

So you think that better the human race is creating, bigger, shinier, machines and developing technology that will ultimately lead to the destruction of the human race? (no i'm not talking about tvs. I'm talking about nuclear warheads, bombs etc.)
And you're wondering why art exists when, from my point of view, it has bettered many peoples lives and brought about no wars and such. In my opinion, bettering the human race shouldnt increase the risk of destruction. Granted medicine has a big role to play in bettering the human race (only for survival purposes) and technology has taken a big part in it over the years. So for the bad points in technology, there are an equal ammount of good points. But with art the good points far outway the bad points. Besides, even with art, there are more than enough people trying to "better the human race".

Also, I assume when you say art, you're talking about portraits and sculptures? Because design is art too. If there wasn't some degree of art mixed in with all that technology, things most definitely wouldn't advance as quickly as they are and have. Things wouldn't catch on nearly as quick, certainly with the public anyway. Because: people love pretty things to look at. i.e, art.

YES I just noticed!  I had given up on the Intellectual Forum because it was just him posting mindblowingly ridiculous topics.  But...

I'm an artist and if you look through time art has contributed a great deal to the world. Math and science are important. But art is amazing and important.
