I think its extremely ignorant and selfish to think we are the only life in space, out of the endless amount of galaxies, each of which contain millions of stars, each with the possibility of its own solar system.
Judging from your previous posts, "ignorant" is a word you like to use quite a bit (and it's not just you, a lot of people on here throw it around without really paying attention to its meaning). We are ALL ignorant as to whether there is life elsewhere in the universe. This is because NONE of us know if there is life outside of our planet. Perhaps you meant to say it is "arrogant" to assume that life only exists on Earth. Regardless, I am curious how you would reconcile this statement with statements you have made about G-d and religion. For example, in one post you alluded to the Bible being "made up" (http://forums.golivewire.com/peer-bnsstn-support-a.html#postNumber15) and then you called someone "brainwashed" when it was suggested that the Bible may be true (http://forums.golivewire.com/peer-bnsstn-support-a.html#postNumber19). In another post, you said that the Bible was not created by God, but by people. (http://www.golivewire.com/forums/peer-oiiepn-support-a.html#postNumber1) In this same post, you went on to say that "god is not an intelligent being, it is a force of nature." You concluded this post by writing, "Open your minds and quit being so ignorant, theres no man sitting on a throne in the sky." In this post about life outside of Earth, you seem to indicate that it would be arrogant to draw a negative conclusion about the existence of life elsewhere in the universe. However, your own conclusions about G-d's intelligence and and the divinity of a religious text seem to go against this logic. After all, none of use can scientifically prove G-d's "intelligent" existence (or lack thereof) or that the Bible does or does not come from G-d. Using your own logic, it seems arrogant to draw the conclusion that G-d does not exist as an intelligent being or that the Bible is not G-d's divine word. I am not criticizing you for holding certain beliefs. I am just pointing out that people commonly draw conclusions about things that that lack physical evidence to support a conclusion one way or another. That said, I do not believe in the existence of life elsewhere in the universe. Perhaps that is arrogant of me. Post edited at 6:08 am on Feb. 22, 2007 by mikeg80

For starters: 1. The Bible was written by people, and the Bible itself says so. Moments of clarity do not qualify as Divine inspiration. 2. The New Testament was compiled by a jury on the behest of Emperor Constantine of Constantinople. 3. It's ignorant to ignore math and say that there is no life elsewhere. 4. Proving some idiot's hypocrisy does not reconcile your own assheaded conclusion. Now, shut up with your neochristian bullshit.

I'm a Jew. (Notice that I didn't give my opinion one way or the other on the religious / Bible issue but I'm sure there are plenty of counterarguments to your arguments against the Bible; nonetheless, your points don't discount the possibilty of an intelligent G-d) And I'm not trying to prove my conclusion as to extraterrestrial life. Like I said, people commonly draw conclusions without proof, and that is not necessarily a bad thing. I am just trying to see if this poster would try to be consistent with his logic given his past arguments against an intelligent G-d. Hopefully this makes sense--I'm typing this on my phone. Edit: I should clarify what I meant about conclusions without proof not necessarily being bad. What I mean is that we never have perfect information, and there are many instances where we have poor information or virtually no information, yet we can (and often do) draw conclusions based on what little we do know about the issue or what we know about other substantially similar issues. Hey Mike, I hate to tell you but the bible was written by people. Nothing I said was ignorant. And way to use a post that has nothing to do with this topic against me. This is the Science and Business forum, if you accept that there is a magical man in the sky, you obviously aren't thinking straight.
I didn't call you ignorant (you really like that word). In bringing up your religion-related posts, I'm simply questioning the consistency of your logic as opposed to raising actual issues of religion. With regard to the possibility of beings existing elsewhere in the universe, your point essentially is that it would be arrogant to assume that there AREN'T such beings. However, with regard to an intelligent G-d (or "magical man in the sky" to use your own characterization), one is an idiot if he or she DOES believe in that existence. Under your own logic, isn't it just as arrogant to assume that an intelligent G-d doesn't exist as it would be to assume that life does not exist elsewhere in the universe? If you do not consistently apply your logic to the views that you hold yourself, then I don't see how you can argue that it is arrogant to believe that extraterrestrial life does not exist.

Except I have seen proof of other galaxies, no one has ever shown me proof of god. Religion really has no place here.

I think there are other forms of life in the universe. As for aliens, the general term meaning alien lifeform would apply. but the pop culture aliens with green skin and huge black eyes is probably just giving materialization to an abstract concept. I agree that the lifeforms are probably not what we visualize them as; they could be single-celled organisms for all we know.
