Okay, my sound isn't working. The only thing I haven't tried is messing with my BIOS settings. I know how to get there, but I'm lost at the menu. How would I get to my sound driver options from the menu?

I have a Windows XP home.

it is relatively unlikely that your sound issues arise from, or can be fixed by anything relating to your BIOS.

It's fairly easy to check, although exactness depends on what BIOs you have.  sound options are probably in the menu called "integrated peripherals," or something like that.  if they aren't...  most BIOSes only have 10 or 20 menus... go through each one of them looking for something like "ONBOARD SOUND: disabled."

it's not going to be obtuse, if your sound is disabled through your BIOS, it'll be a really obviously named option.

(sidenote: your BIOS isn't part of your operating system, and doesn't control your drivers.)

Do you even know what the BIOS does? Ok, dumb question,. its obvious that you don't. If you're having driver issues, go to device manager. Right click My computer, click properties, click hardware tab and its in there. Scroll down the list looking under Multimedia deices. Should have a big yellow exclamation mark next to it if it really does have a problem.

Okay, honey, I'm not computer illiterate. I know what BIOS does, I just did not know which area of the menu to look under to MAKE SURE that my onboard audio was enabled.

I have tried all of what you listed. Actually, it was my first course of action. So thanks. For nothing. If you think you know how to help me, PM me, because I still haven't solved my problem. Otherwise, take your elitist attitude elsewhere.

in a fit of irony, I fixed the sound system on a computer earlier today... that just had it turned off in the bios.
