Just wondering...for a school to have a snow day..what are the requirements?

I mean, I know if it's extremely snowy or icy, the DA will call it a snow day, like if the roads aren't plowed.

But today, I had a snow day...the roads were clear..no ice...some snow on the grass but not even NEARLY enough to call it a snow day...barely a few inches..

i once heard from a previous teacher that in some states, like mine, or somethin...if the temperature was going to be blow -10 degrees Ferienheit, they legally have to cancel school. [because of frost bite issues or something], and it was NOT a power outage or anything like that...because all the schools in the area and in many counties near ours cancelled school. [not due to power or buliding maintenance]...is it because of the temperature?

It depends on where you live.  Different states and districts have different rules.

Maybe it was because of the temperature.

Possibly, though -10 Fahrenheit isn't that cold. But then again I'm from Canada.

ours doesn't have temperature laws like that (not that it ever gets much below 20 degrees in seattle) but snow days are determined by whether buses can get down the steep hills and what condition side-roads are in.

What she is trying to say is that if looks like it might snow, us Washingtonians don't have school.   : D

for us it only has to ice alittle and where closed, but that is because we are texas and suck so we are always unprepared for 'cold' weather

I don't know, but In Canada Unless it's pretty much impossible to actually MOVE it's not a snow day. Even if the roads are iced over school won't be canceled, just less full.

I don't know about them different states. Here in GA one CM of snow shall be about enough =)
Not so much for the cold weather but of the excitment brought by it, giving the reason to celebrate by a day off.

The whole thing is tooo dumb though. I never wish to go to school but skipping it like that is idiotic. That makes me feel like I am a kindergardener, becouse that is excectly how the state seems to treat me and my education.

There were cancellations not to long ago for temperatures at 20F, but there was also some rain. Not my stupid school though, I had to get wet and freeze....

Yes, the last time school was cancelled was way back in grade 4. The snow fall was so heavy that some people couldn't open their front doors. Then they kind of figured they should cancel school, and did so quite reluctantly.

I had one last month.    (that was my first snow day!) (Im glad I had at least one)

But then, it was also bad enough that you couldnt see the end of your lawn, driving to the corner and back took an hour, and 3 (or 2) people died. So yeah.
