My uncle has made quite alot of money investing in stocks but he of course trades alot of money. Anyways, I'm interested in learning some stuff about the stock market. I'm a member of youngmoney.com where you get to trade money with virtual money, it's not real; but you gain alot of experience. So has anyone invested money in stocks and has it given you good return and what are some good sites or books to read about stocks for someone new and young. I'm no business major, much less out of high school.

Thanks in advance

I have a few stocks in a company called NTL, they were given to me.

I'm not really sure how well they're doing.

My boyfriend dabbles in stocks. He has a bit of money in it evidently (I've never asked how much, because it isn't my business, but sometimes he'll talk about how he lost like $500 this week, or how he's up a few hundred another week, so it must be a decent amount of money). He's not really "young" though (he's 24).

He owns about 5 different stocks, and various amounts of each (depending on how much it is worth). He watches some show on MSNBC called Mad Money, and he pays a lot of attention to this Jim Cramer guy (the guy whom is also on Mad Money), he gets some good tips from that. It takes a lot of work though, and sometimes my boyfriend stresses about it, especially if the market is down.

So when you're happy (Hurray!), or sad (Aw!),
Or frightened (Eeek!), or mad (Rats!)

hey since there isn't a lot of business talk here on the forums i thought i would add a little...I just recently got interested in investing.  Ive gone to the library and checked out a couple books and I plan on getting a brokerage account when i turn 18 in a couple months...but so far from the amount that i have read investing is really interesting to me...

does anyone know anything about convertible bonds-they seem like a worthwhile investing option because you can convert your bonds into stocks and sell for high prices.  I also plan on spending some of my christmas money this year on investing.  Hopefully my parents can help.

Anyone in a similar position?

When Air Canada was heading towards bankruptcy, I knew I should have purchased stocks.  The Government of Canada wouldn't let Canada's national airline kick the bucket.  AC's stocks went down to, I think, $0.06 per share, and I could've easily picked up 20000 of them.  I think it's around $17 per share now...so I could've made some tidy cash.  Durr.
