For Windows XP at a minimum, the commands in MS-DOS

Code:

shutdown -i

will initiate the remote shutdown dialogue box.  However, in Windows 98, it appears that this command doesn't work (on the computers in my school anyway).  Does anyone know the equivalent, or the reason why this command isn't working?

And while you're at it, any other fun DOS commands you can think of?  By 'fun' I mean 'annoying for any supervisor who may be in charge of a class at the time'.

The "shutdown" command is only available for XP. You can use a batch file for the previous versions:

It's been a long time since I played with DOS, but you could probably write a short "if" program to run in the background that would call your batch file at a certain time of day. That work for your "fun."

I'd definitely do that... but under Windows 98, I'm afraid it isn't available.

From this site, it says...

As mentioned above: Windows NT, Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows 2003 uses the same method (via the "NET SEND" - command ).
Note: the option "NET SEND" is NOT available in Windows 95, Windows 98 and Windows Me.

Ah.  My bad.  I did that in class once and it sent messages to everyone in the school.  All these teachers started showing up in my class.  It was hilarious.
