I just checked on PC World, their allocated stock of atomic placement scanners has been completely pre-sold in the Christmas rush. Ah well, there's always the Xbox 360.

Sadly, it has been proved that to teleport people from one place to another, you need an energy source that is about 8 times more powerful than the sun. They know how to do it, just can't get a big enough battery :)
------- Fine Ignore me today, if you want to But, tomorrow I may be the only friend you got And I won't be there for you

Assuming that atomic structure is not so simple as atomic placement, you could just literally fall apart after the process finished.

You might also want to think about the fact that atoms all over your body are constantly moving, and it would be pretty difficult to get a simaltaneous reading on every atom. Also, when it comes to interatomic and intermolecular bonds, can we be sure just placing them in the same place will work?
------- Incidentally this signature is available in the foyer.

Regardless, it would effectively kill you anyway. Think of it this way, if someone was to make an identical copy of you, right now, that copy would think it was you, but you would not be you, as you would not be experiencing life from it, you would be experiencing lfe from your original body. Right, so, teleporting people by pulling them apart and then reassembling them is effectively making an identical copy while destroying the original, therefore, if you get teleported in such a way, you die, and your stream of conciousness ends, and an identical copy of you is created which thinks it is you, but really is not you.
