I take all my notes and I re-write them.  Think it's an odd thing, it actually helps me familiarize with the words and what they go with.  This technique works best with bubble tests, so it's not a good idea if you have to write an essay or fill in the blank.

I get old tests from my friends who have had the class before this helps to narrow down the possibilities of that is on the test. http://N0T3S.com is the site I use to connect with my friends and share material to help study.

I know for my Environmental Policy class it is common sense, mostly because I am enjoying it.  When I took US Foreign Policy last spring, that was a great interest of mine, and I studied alot of it during my freetime and it came easy to me.  For other concepts such as history and the French Revolution, I would start byt a brief laymen view of the revolution and slowing go more indepth about who and what were involved and when it happened.  For me that comes natural

read the section in the book before you go to lecture, sit in the front during lecture and take real notes. Especially take notes on examples. You can always go back and outline the book later for concepts, but the book rarely has good examples. Then a few days after lecture read the book again. Do homework in groups and go over problems together. See if you can get ahold of old tests and/or homework, and right b efore the test reveiw notes, recopy example problems, and go over things in groups.

yes i agree.
Reading the section of the book before lecture enables u to understand better what the lecturer tries to teach on that day. During the lecture, jot down notes that are important. Because u have read through/study them, u will know what is important for u to understand better. Then read them again to grasp the ideas solidly. U may do homework together or not, depends on you. Do more exercises to be very sure. Reading without doing exercises is like doing nothing at all. Cause when u do questions, only then u know how will the questions on the topic be set. Most of em will be tricky and require u to reread back in case u forget.
Doing notes is helpful because when u write it down, it enforces ur understanding of the subject, and u can know how much u understand about that chapter.
At the same time, u do not need to carry heavy books but just papers to college.

i reread the material a week in advance and my notes and study them until i am able to explain to myself or a roommate, it drives them nuts. i do it until it makes sense it my own way yet which answers what the teacher wants.

I just read over anything a couple of times, make sure I understand the main points and that is pretty much it.  Nothing special.

For me, well for example, i take political science and i have to come and write 3 essays for my midterm,

So the way i study is i say all of those essays into the wall or outloud to a person. because if you can say them outloud to the wall and think you know what your talking about  then you just have to get your facts straight, but it all just starts by you knowing what's going on.
