I don't know about you, but when I play video games, I'm more focused on the story than just the gameplay.

Mind you, I like a good enemy or epic boss fight, but only when it actually makes sense in the story. I don't like going around fighting things endlessly with no clear explanation as to why I'm doing it (or why these things are even throwing themselves at me to be killed).

On that note, I wonder why video game designers these days still continue to use "random encounters". Unless you're a total video game noob, no doubt you're very familiar with these atrocious abominations. I've seriously never seen a single gamer, ever, say that they like random encounters, or appreciate them in any way. Seriously, these get fucking annoying. I refuse to play games that throw them at me, and I wish game designers would get a fucking clue and stop doing this.

I want a good, richly detailed story and intricate character to get immersed in.

Yea when playing a single player game I'm much more interested in narrative than I am the gameplay mechanics. Can't stand non-linearity, either, which means I'm not interested in most modern games. Thanks, trend towards broad open worlds and procedural generation!

I go for gameplay,
Story doesn't bother me, I generally stick to the more open ended games for that reason
But there are exceptions like gta which love for te storylines

Gameplay it games is generally repetitive, '5 seconds of fun repeated over and over.'

I find story very important, this is why the Mass Effect 3 ending drove me crazy.

Depends on the type of game. For stuff like shooters, strategy games, racing games, etc. I generally don't care about story as long as the gameplay is smooth. For mostly every other genre, story must come first.
