My dad use to beat my ass as a kid but I never learned my lesson it just made me resent him. I have a niece who I practically watch everyday and she is an absolute demon child! But no matter what she does I don't think she would ever be able to do anything to make me wanna hit her, maybe yell at her but that's it. I know for damn sure when I have kids I'm gonna show them nothing but love and affection because I don't want them to grow up how I grew up.

Only if they did something truly awful. I have been hit twice in my life; once when I broke a brand new computer then lied about touching it.

I remember it vividly and learnt my lesson.

I've watched documentaries about child-rearing and different parenting types, and seen kids who are smacked every time they do anything wrong in real life, and they just become immune to/used to it, it thus becomes meaningless.

that still assumes that spanking lowers IQ, which i've no reason to believe it does. i haven't seen any study that shows spanking impairs cognitive ability or progression.

I have. And even if I didn't see those studies I know that spanking hurts kids in other ways and doesn't teach a lesson. Can we just not argue for one day?
