metric for everything else

scientists can continue using kelvin, celcius if they must, etc

it makes much more sense for temperature to be on the F scale just in a basic sense

0 is really fucking cold

100 is pretty damn hot

instead of 0 is cold ish

20 is lukewarm

50 is death valley

100 is boiling point. youre never ever going to see a weather report of 100 C, but you will see them of 100 F. likewise, 0 doesnt mean much in C and instead of 20 degrees, its like -8 which seems totally counter intuitive, because something below 0 should be really fucking cold

C is probably absorbed real well into the public conscience elsewhere and i know both very well, but as someone who knows both, F makes a lot more sense to me just as a general model

everything else should be metric. kilometers, liters, etc etc. using quarts and miles makes absolutely zero sense

as a scientist, fuck kelvins.

i personally think fahrenheit is shit. i can make a comparison making celsius look simple too:

<0 = freezing (literally)
10-15 = chilly
20 mild
25 = room temp
30 = hot
>35 = holy fucking shit i want to die.

idk why you're saying 0 doesnt mean anything, it does. "oh shit it's below zero outside, so cold"

no i just mean that 0 isnt that cold on the celcius scale. 32 is nothing in any continental climate. it just seems more intuitive on a 0-100 scale that actually can come to full use, just like metric is in multiples of 10 instead of random 5280 feet = 1 mile

idk, i think you're arbitrarily saying that because it's 0-100 it makes sense. i think celsius makes sense and you can easily relate it to things if you use it on a day to day basis. especially when you compare it to body temp which is like 37. freezing point being 0, a solid reference point makes more sense than 32. especially when you think of the temperature outside and if it's <0 then you know it might be icy or potnetial for snow, etc.

tbh i dont think either is 'better'. you're just used to them so it makes sense to you.

i disagree. and ask asnyone in europe, we have no issue interpreting the C scale.

i know you dont. i mean long term. thats why i was saying that US should convert to metric entirely. i think F lines up with metric much better than C on a day to day basis thats why

well i don't see that it does to be honest. they both have their own useful reference points. the fact that it's not on a 0-100 scale doesn't really matter IMO.

thats the whole point of metric to me, its linear, its multiples of 10, rather than weird stuff like 8 cups = a gallon?

yeah but celsius has no other subunits, so the multiples of 10 thing doesn't really make a difference.

it's like you saying "oh let's not use metres because 1-100 metres is a massive distance whereas 1-100 feet is smaller and more relatable".

multiples only is useful because there are other units, kg, g, mg; km, m, cm; etc.

its that interconversion that makes it useful, not that it goes to 100.

well i advocate the use of meters because its much more intuitive with subunits. i just mean an easy 0-100 scale is more intuitive since one is very cold and one is very hot (within normal human terms) rather than one being sort of cold and one being double death valley

but you're just making up the limits 0-100.

i could just as easily say 0-40 probably covers most things in my daily life in C whereas 0-40 makes no sense in F.

the 0-100 thing is completely random and arbitrary, you're just applying it because that's whats used in F. 0-100 is not necessarily going to be useful in any or all circumstances. take wavelengths of light for example, 0-100 is useless. 350nm is about violet and red maxes out at like 750nm, and that's metric.

as long as the interconversion is fine and you have basic points to relate to then there isn't an issue. and there isn't with C either.
