Today I got home from work. Walked into my apartment after 5 min of being home. Some one was knocking at my door. I go to answer it to find 2 guys standing their claiming to be from my energy company. They ask for my account number and my bill. After I kept saying no. Then they asked if they could come inside as they moved closer to me. Again I replied "No you have to leave now." They walk away from my door and start walking out. Then one of the guys said " Dont worry we will be back later." I then called my energy provide who stated that they did not send them and I should go to the police.

After driving for a good 15 min. I got to the police department. I talked to the police officer at the front desk. He said there was nothing that they could do. Because the guys did not assault me or threaten me. He gave me a form to fill out and a police officer will review my case in 3-5 business day's. Will there nothing that can be done. I so dont feel safe

Er that's not nice!

I wouldn't feel safe either! The police in the UK wouldn't just leave it at that, they'd do house to house enquiries and step up patrols in thae area, not leave it 3-5 working days!

Perhaps you could inform your neighbours about what happened, just in case they spot them hanging around.

Maybe getting a chain or/and a peephole installed on your door would be wise too.

"Don't worry we will be back later" seems rather threatening to me ;/

I guess the stats probably say these guys were just trying it on for some kind of distraction burglary or the like and so aren't very likely to return but it's probably best to take a few small things even if it's just for peace of mind.

Erm... you must live in a fantastical area of the UK then because I know my local officers would do nothing also. Don't get me wrong, I have a lot of respect for the police but they do irritate me sometimes. I work in a shop that deals with a LOT of shop lifters. When we have a thief in our shop and radio for the police, they are not interested. Even when we provide CCTV evidence of thefts, the police still aren't interested. I once had an officer in my store on an unrelated event when one of our well known thieves came in, I asked him to do something and he wouldn't.

I assume thats sarcasm. cops don't give a shit about anything

though what that cop said about them not being able to do anything isn't true. its a crime to impersonate an employee of the electric/gas/water company. mostly because they have the right to access your property to do their job. which is probably what these idiots were counting on. the cop just didn't want to do anything. too much paperwork

You're actually expecting the police to protect you?  Lol.

Grab yourself one of  these and learn how to use it.  Learn to protect yourself.

The issue is more how do they approach an investigation. All they have is a claim by the OP (and as far as we know, only the OP) that a couple guys impersonated employees of a company in what is likely a scam. What are they going to do? They already have patrol cars out there, the most they really could do is be on the lookout for that sort of thing. And perhaps the police at the moment may even be facing budget cuts due to the bad economy, hence their limited ability to respond to these things - they may have to prioritize the crimes which have already occurred before engaging in preventive measures, hence simply no resources to deal with it.

Like I said in my last post, this is why it is incumbent upon the OP to be able to protect herself. You can't rely on the police.

I'd leave and stay somewhere else for a few nights, I'm assuming they were going to scam you and rape you, I'd have called the police instead too, that tends to get their attention more. and exxagerate a bit saying they tried to push their way in and the break down the door while saying nasty things to you.

the police aren't there to make you feel safe.  they're there to catch the people who kill/rob you.
