Is there anyone else out there who feels they are destined for something "awful?" Is there anyone out there who is torn in two by fate and choice? What happens when the bad guy is the one you identify with... and is it a bad thing?

Yes, there are many teenagers who think that they're special snowflakes and that their lives are so ~difficult~ and that they are ~destined~ for something. They are all deluded and once they actually leave their rooms and start socially interacting with normal people on a regular basis, they find that the delusion slips away and they feel rather embarrassed by how silly they were.
