A more systematic approach to philosophy.

What is philosophy? Is it man's study of the world, or his attempt to find a place in it? Should he need a reason to live? Why? Why not? Is there a place for man in this world? Why? Why not? Is it unwise of him to question the answers of his ancestors? Or should he strive to shame them by proving them wrong? Is his pursuit the betterment of himself? How would he do that if it were? Should he live in concert with his fellow man, setting aside his personal gain for the greater good, or should he work to make himself happy and be content that everyone else is doing the same? How often is it acceptable to put himself in front of others? How often is it desireable to put others in front of himself? Should he expect recompense for his selflessness? Or live, content with the knowledge that he has done good. What is good? Is it what his fellow man says it is, or what he himself thinks?

I cannot continue. I wish that someone else carries on in my place.

I did an essay on this last year. Firstly: “Philosophy is to be studied, not for the sake of any definite answers to its questions, since no definite answers can, as a rule, be known to be true, but rather for the sake of the questions themselves.” – (Bertrand Russell, Problem of Philosophy)

To me, it is the possession of a passion for learning and wanting to pursue knowledge.

I always thought philosophy to be a mans way of defining life, to give him a reason as to why we were created, and how we should live.

My philosophy is that as a certified LiveWire Intellectual I am indubitably capable of composing a more verbose post.

EDIT: Just got a new signature :D

Philosophy doesn't answer questions. In fact, philosophy leads to the gain of knowledge. In return, knowledge brings about more questions. So should we think in terms of philosophy or knowledge? I say it depends on your point of view. If you were to say, believe in god, than many questions would seem to have answers, therefore you would not wish to know more. However, if you were to not believe in god, than you would be more interested in finding the real answers to life and that which is around us. So with that, is it possible for anyone to know everything?
My view on philosophy is that it is the study of perception and truth. The difference is incomparable. I've recently read an enlightening book that has broadened my perception of philosophy.

Yes philosophy is not so much about answering questions as asking them, and probing deeper into a subject. Although if you believe in God you can still study it.

Sure you can still study god, I never discouraged that. There just is less knowledge that a person goes after if he or she believes in god. Depending on the religion, the person can simply study the bible since there is not much other information to pursue.
