Whoa, calm down. It's the intellectual forum, not the so-dead-serious-that-all-fun-is-outlawed forum, and it's mine as much as it is yours. Riddles, good ones, take intelligence both to write and to solve. If you don't think so, then I'm sure you'll have no problem answering mine, thus sinking this thread to the depths of the forum.

Actually, I was thinking dead, rather than awake, but perhaps that says more about me than anything else...

And a liquid trail <- Blood.  "Liquid" would be an odd word choice otherwise, I think.

Unfortunately, it doesn't hold up so well for the last two lines, but I suppose dead people usually don't sleep.
