In a very unprofessional like way, I'm going to start this with a story. So recently my sister's computer antirvirus subscription ran out. Buying a new one online would cost $10 more then the '06 version. So we go down, buy, etc, etc, etc. I install the program and the fucker does not work. It gives me a unspecificed error that has no reference on the site or anywhere on the internet. Being a idiot that I am, I didn't check amazon or other web retailers to see reviews of the product (i'll get to this later).

After four hours of unistalling, reinstalling, cleaning the registery, scanning using online anti-virus and doing quite a lot of work, I get the bitch to work, and this is me who built 2 computers from scratch.

Guess what program this is: Norton Antivirus 2006. I'd expect such behavior from McAffe, not Norton. Several websites have rated from moderately high tech consumers with 2 or fewer stars from reviewers in the hundreds. Disturbing? Quite.

A company with a solid reputation has supremely fucked up in a manner so unbecomming that I'm this close to never buying their software again.

So the question becomes, if a company that has a reputation for excellence, but produces a product so flawed, so screwed up, so reeking of microsoft, should consumers who have a long history of success with the company's products, abandon them for their one massive fuckup?

Btw: Do not buy 2006, get a copy of 2005.

Ahh yes... norton... i have many similar memories of using their software, or trying to anyway. In my case I moved on, though I didn't have the long history of success with Norton, but found that I could get equally effective software for much cheaper or even free.

Overall I have a very low tolerance for products that don't work, and i draw the line when the company that makes the product has bad customer support... if they can't fix their own piece of junk then there's no way i'm going to bother!

In short, never be afraid to use an opportunity like this to try alternative products, you might, like me, find something better.

Yeah, i recently been using the computer sync software for teh sony erricson k750i phone. that software is flawed, the customer support people gave up trying to fix the problem and started to just say that unfortunatly it didnt work, then some guy on the internet figured out what was wrong and how to fix it and sony erricson didnt even give him anything for his troubles.

From what I've seen, the open source program ClanWin, works exceptionally well and is less of a resource hog. It's also nice to run Linux which I'm not too concerned about viruses or mal-ware. And it looks pretty too.
