Here's why. Sony is in Japan. Besides being a place that is very good at taking things American's make and making them smaller, Japan is famous for a couple other things too.

The first is Anime, providing uninteresting people with something to obsess over.  

The second is samurais and ninjas and shit, which are cool.

The third is porn.

Porn. Think about that - neither cable TV nor the internet got big until people figured out you could use them for porn. This thing? It's going to be expensive and nobody but uber-dorks are going to own them, at least for a while. And then some genius is going to say, "Hey, we can do porn on these!" and Sony will motherfucking own the universe.

Sony's ass is in a sling right now with this rootkit on the CDs, so I'll be curious to see what happens to the company as a whole a few years down the road.  That is, assuming that anything even happens to them.
