Tech Support Leader

A Tech Support Leader tries to:
1. Give straight forward answers to tough questions.
2. Look for multiple solutions.
3. Answer the question in the topic (not just adding a link).
4. Know when to refer peers to a specialised resource.

A Tech Support Leader tries not to:
1. Belittle a peer for his or her lack of knowledge.
2. Offer solutions can cause more harm than good.

Oooooh, does that mean we can still reccomend linux as a catch all solution to every problem!

Just kidding, to make it obvious that I was kidding, to find the solution to any one problem, one must first understand the problem, or else, be lucky.

Ohhh or those people that love mac to death can recommend it for the solution to every problem.

I must say that so far I seem to like this Tech Support Leader initiative, I would honestly like to see more people becoming Tech Support Leaders.

I'd like to add what I view as something very important:  when offering advice, the more it costs (in terms of money, time, or anything) to implement whatever "solution" you offer, the more certain you should be that it's not only correct but is also the best (safest, least expensive, and most effective) solution to a particular problem.

For instance, do not go telling people to get a new computer or erase their hard drives unless you're sure there's not another solution.  And, generally speaking, there is a better solution.

What forums are going to be looked for when applying towards a TSL? Is it strictly the Tech Forum or possibly from any forum (obviously not from DT&RM)?

I was just curious, because I have been wanting to apply to become one but isn't sure about what forums the replies for the app had to be from.  I know when I applied to become an SL, I had a couple replies from DT&RM but luckily I was given another chance to find others.

I believe it's 99% tech forums, though you might get away with one or two from somewhere else. Thing is, tech posts are almost always in the tech forums.
