Mac's are built on the very reliable Unix file system. And also it is built much stabler and the OS is designed to take up alot less ram and memory than Windows

PCs are cheaper and generally better performance and upgrade wise.  People think PC implies Windows, but you can install any operating system you want on a PC, like Linux, and save yourself $250 or so.  Why spend money on special hardware when you can buy a machine that uses cheaper parts?  Make sure you build your own custom PC though and install a nice friendly Linux distro like Ubuntu (new version comes out in June) on it.

For stability and performance you need Mac. Windows is too unstable now. Maybe Vista will change though..... Probaly not because th´y copied Mac Features

A decent, well built and configured PC is no less reliable than a Mac. It is a myth that they don't crash, in fact, try OS 9, it bring whole new meaning to crashing.

I also need to point out that Mac's have some very funny handling of RAM and SWAP files. If you take a nice meaty PDF and open in it on a Windows machine and a Mac it takes us on average about a 3rd more memory on a Mac.

If you are looking for reliability then you may want to make the switch to Linux. It runs on a PC, so you get the hardware performance and choice of components. If you look into something like Suse 10.1 when it comes out, there is some fairly impressive eye candy and graphics processing too. That said, wait all of a month or two and you will see the same in Fedora, Ubuntu and many more.

I'm getting my Mac Mini withing two weeks, my Dad has been away for a month and is coming back at the end of the next week, and that week also happened to be my birthday, so with Mac Minis being alot cheaper in the US I am getting one.

I really want to experience a Mac, so I think a Mac Mini is the way to go :)

Don't forget the voltage difference.

Right now, a custom built workstation is the only way to go.  A year or two ago, while apple was still on PPC, I'd say that.  But I'll never buy another intel processor if my life depends on it.

My current system:

2 dual core Opterons @ 2 ghz each
Asus K8N-DL Mobo
4 gig Corsair XMS ECC Registered
2x250 SATA2 segate drives
nvidia 7800
19" sony monitor w/ XBRITE

all for about $2500

It is fully capable of completely tunning circles around an intel iMac or Macbook (pro), of comparable price. So tell me, what are you paying all that money for?

Mac OS and OS X is a completely different Sytem all together so you cant compare that except to 95 and yes, macs are harder to kill
