Should I kick my 30 yr old, jobless brother out of the house?

My brother is in his thirties and still living home with my mom and my sisters. We're all young, working, and contributing to finances and can move out at any time but choose to help our mom. We grew up without a father who passed away when we were kids.

My brother on the other hand, is reluctant to work. He is most comfortable going months to a year without working. He can't get a job unless it's offered to him by family or friends, and even then he will quit after a few weeks because it's "too difficult for him" or he just "doesn't enjoy the work".

I'm done with this sense of entitlement and comfort in knowing he has a house to come home to and doesn't have to lift a finger. My mom is close to retirement and his given up the fight. It is up to my sisters and I to set the rules in this house.

Our solution is to give him 30 days to find a job. He can live with us as long as he contributes X amount per month. But he needs to be working. If the 30 days is up and he's still jobless, he's out on the streets. The only problem with that solution is that I don't know if any of us have the heart to kick him out of the home -- he is extremely emotional fragile and has no coping skills. He has no friends to turn to and he might just end up dead or homeless. We've been babying him for so long and there was never a man in the house to raise my brother, so I empathize with him there..

What should we do? Has anyone been kicked out before? Were you able to cope on your own? Leave your suggestions below.

I would give 2 months minimum there. 30 days is steep.

Whose house is it? Is it an apartment or home? What's your mother's opinion on it?

Dig into why he can't hold employment. Maybe get him into counseling. My mental health system offers help with finding housing, work, etc. Not only does he have trouble holding employment but he has no friends, no coping skills, and is fragile? Sounds like a sad existence, what's going on there. Thankfully he has a support system in a family, but that's about to collapse, and in 30 fucking days no less. Harsh, that's life though!

I understand your plight, I'm dealing with a similar issue in my family. Life is fucking cruel and cold, I get he needs to face reality but be a warm, loving influence as he goes through this. Makes sure he knows the severity of the situation and find resources. He's clearly not thriving as well as you and your sisters, something seems amiss.

That's probably the best advice another person can give you. It's tough when dealing with family in this way and really only you can make this decision. I hope everything goes well with whatever your choice is.

If He is really not intended to do a job then I would suggest you to provide him work from home /open a home business for him.E even after that If He shows reluctantness then ...kick him out of the house.
