I have a topic proposal due tomorrow, and am drawing a blank. The topic is for an argumentative paper 10-15pgs in length. The acctual paper is not due for a month or so, but we have to have a page written about the topic, so im looking for any ideas. To save some time, these topics are not allowed--Abortion, cloning, animal cruelty, eating disorders, creation/evolution, death penalty, gangs/gun control, legalization of any drug, smoking/drinking/steroids, suicide, tv violence and sexuality, gay marriage, stem cell research and school uniforms.

Thanks for your help in advance. And for those of you who only like to make rude/pointless posts, please don't waste either of our time.

Christ, what type of teacher it is to censor so many topics. She's obviously a republican.

A pretty simple one is the outlook (you should probably cover both sides for a decent arguement) of our position in Iraq. Well it's not simple, but rather obvious.

You could also make agruements for/against filesharing. The law is pretty obvious and speaks to the against side, but you can make arugements for alternative licensing and that there is little need for record companies anyway.

I came up with a topic last year that's basically arguing that there is a direct link between writers/painters/artists in general and mental illnesses. I found a lot of information.

Edit:: but maybe this is more of a research topic rather than an argumentative paper?

How about different forms of government and their implemetations. Democracies aren't perfect, etc... (Note that we don't have a democracy here in the US).

Purely argumentative, meaning research (for most topics) is a must anyways.

Thanks for all the ideas everyone.

Topics you've mentioned are pretty much topics that are argued by many with many viewpoints. You could pretty much write more than 15 pages on those. However, I can see where you're going. I'm assuming you want to try something different than what is always argued?

Argue about stereotypes in general? It can in high school or in foreign countries maybe?

Also how about try how the media invades a celebrities' privacy. Or maybe how technology is making our current society in a fast paced way of life - drive through, credit cards, computers, emails, cell phones etc.

I think many of you are missing what an arguementative paper is.

Anyway. Why did the teacher ban certain subjects?

You could do affirmative action.  There is lots of information.  I did that for my argumentative paper and got an A+.  You could chose a side and then make your argument.  If you need any other help, I would be willing to help.  Just ask.

And to BostonDave--some teachers ban certain topics so the students aren't basically restating what others have said hundreds of times.  The point of argumentative papers is to argue a point in your own words, not to repeat other arguments.  Most of the topics that this teacher banned have been argued too many time to make it worthy of a paper.  Most teachers want the students to come up with a new argument for or against a topic based on other research.

[color=indigo] Your teacher is too strict with the topics, its not fair that he/she removed all the good topics. Geeze what do they expect you to write on when they took away the good stuff. Seeing as you can't choose those, why not choose something that you have some kind of insight on, something of your interest and something that you like argumentatively. Or you could write a paper on why she excluded all those topics, but she/he may give you a F for it so don't.
