This might seem like a really stupid question, but I'm considering getting an Apple ibook, and I'm wondering if I'll be able to use MSN Messenger on it?  It's a big factor in whether I buy it or not.  And is the Apple equivalent to Microsoft Word as easy to use?

I have microsoft word on my iBook and it works just the same as the one for windows. As for MSN, there are lots of different types you can download and they all work just fine. If you want, I can send you some screen shots and such...

Yes please, that would be helpful.  It's a lot of money to spend so I'm doing my best to research!

There are a lot of chat clients which you can use on a Apple Computer. I think some are like Gaim or Trillain (or something like that) Just go to www.download.com and search for chat clients on the mac section.

You can get Microsoft Office on an apple computer. I don't know what their alternative is sorry

Apple is well known for their easy to use features all throughout their products so don't worry.

I really am considering to get an Apple ibook or something like that soon. I will just have to wait and see + ask my Dad

Is this the year I am drawn away from Windows. I'm trying Linux. I will just have to wait for Vista even though it looks like it is going to be a disappointment

New iBooks (their name might be changing to "MacBooks," actually) are coming out almost certainly before summer.  You can probably expect an iSight built in and Front Row (Apple's home theatre program) with remote, so you'll probably want to wait a few months and see what goes down.

Edit: er, let me answer the question too.  MSN works swell on a Mac, and there are also free programs like Adium that work with MSN messenger.

Microsoft Office is also pretty much the same thing, only more-Maclike (I prefer the Mac version, to be honest).

Some of the messenger programs really suck on the Mac. The messanger leaves a little to be desired. A program called aMSN works better IMHO. Don't use AIM, use iChat, and Yahoo Messanger is stuck in the stone age on the Mac. Yahoo will never update it, and it sucks. It works ok if you ues Virtual PC with it however if you need all of the video features, etc..

iChat is pretty smooth.

Wait for an Intel iBook because the old Power PC processors are out of date. I have an Intel iMac Core Duo and its great.
