For some odd reasons that strikes me as something similar to the fold concept, both seem to revolve around massive amounts of energy being placed into massive magentic fields.

In Heim's six-dimensional world, the forces of gravity and electromagnetism are coupled together. Even in our familiar four-dimensional world, we can see a link between the two forces through the behaviour of fundamental particles such as the electron. An electron has both mass and charge. When an electron falls under the pull of gravity its moving electric charge creates a magnetic field. And if you use an electromagnetic field to accelerate an electron you move the gravitational field associated with its mass. But in the four dimensions we know, you cannot change the strength of gravity simply by cranking up the electromagnetic field. In Heim's view of space and time, this limitation disappears. He claimed it is possible to convert electromagnetic energy into gravitational and back again, and speculated that a rotating magnetic field could reduce the influence of gravity on a spacecraft enough for it to take off.
Hehe... ::imagines anti-gravity boots with magnetic field coils on them:: Actually I find the idea quite intriguing. If - and that's a big if - they get it to work, that would mean massive distances being able to be covered, possible new planets to habitate, opening up worlds of change. I'm excited to find out what they'll eventually end up producing in the end.

It'd be great if it worked wouldn't it? But yea, why stop at mars? You could get more people up int he space station, switch them more often. Better research ect..

nearest star in 80days, thast just a start, what happens when this technology impoves? Sounds like an exciting thing, lets hope they get the experiments underway, so that when my grandchildren tell me the first flight has been made with some new engine, i can sit them down and show them my favorite star trek episode ManicD
And they'll look at each other and roll their eyes and say, "here he goes again, with all of his underdeveloped physics knowledge. Look at the way he watches Star Trek, we had that technology fifteen years ago and he's watching it like its brand new. What an old fart"

Dröscher is hazy about the details, but he suggests that a spacecraft fitted with a coil and ring could be propelled into a multidimensional hyperspace. Here the constants of nature could be different, and even the speed of light could be several times faster than we experience. If this happens, it would be possible to reach Mars in less than 3 hours and a star 11 light years away in only 80 days, Dröscher and Häuser say.
I think thats the crux of the whole article. Going into a diffrent dimention where the laws of physics are diffrent. Much like startrek! Hurrrrrr. To be honest, I like the idea of fast space travel, but ugh, the idea of traveling to another dimention with diffrent physical properties scares the shit out of me. If this turns out to be true and it is implemented, truly it will be the greatst human achivement in history.
------- Well damn!

Urgh, I'm having a hard enough time to learn the accepted laws. Dangnabbit. One problem would be, I assume, no communication possible between dimensions. If it turns out that the whole thing is real and possible, tests will need to be conducted before we send humans in. Tests = chimps or maybe particularly intelligent dolphins in quirky liquid-filled space suits with little windows for their eyes... In any case, I can see this taking a long time, possibly hundreds of years, before we even come to terms with the idea.
