For as long as I've known I've always had these agressive dreams, or nightmares actually. I remember at one point in my life they got too bad to the point where i stopped remembering all my dreams just so i could sleep through the night. Now for awhile they've been coming back since I was practicing lucid dreaming because I thought it'd be helpful somehow and maybe I could find a pattern in all these nightmares. So far what I've noticed common between all my nightmares is that I'm constantly fighting for my life in extreme conditions, and I always barely make it out alive. Sometimes I don't have the ability to survive in a dream and I have to wake myself up before I "die" as a last resort. I know in real life there have been a few situations where my life was threatened, but I overcomed them so shouldnt I be over it? I barely even remember half of these points in my life.

Is there something wrong in your life at the moment that you're not dealing with? That might cause aggressive dreams. But I know how you feel, I pretty much have nightmares every single night, they're so vivid that I actually think I'm about to die and it's the worst feeling I've ever had. I also used to have night terrors as a child, so it's been a long standing issue. To try and prevent it I try to make sure I'm in a good mood before I sleep and I try to time my sleep cycle so I don't wake up during my REM phase a sleep, which makes it less likely for me to remember any dreams.

Yeah I have a lot of things going on but idk which is the biggest problem. All my issues seem equally stressing in their own ways. That's exactly how I feel in my dreams too, it's comforting that I'm not the only one with this problem. Have u had any of the nightmares since u started doing that routine? When was your last nightmare?
I had heard that lucid dreaming would help me figure out what's bothering me and that after some practice I would be able to control what happens in my dreams, but maybe I'm not doing it right because all it's done is made the dreams more detailed and harder to forget when they wake me up at night. Like last nights dream I can remember in vivid detail everything that happened. Before I tried lucid dreaming I would atleast forget it after like 5 minutes.

No! That means quite the contrary. You ARE doing it right. More detailed and vivid and likely to stay in your memory are the first things that are supposed to happen when learning lucid dreaming. You have to get through this part before you'll gain control of yourself in your dreams, or even control of your dreams themselves. I don't know about the nightmares and all, but I DO know about lucid dreaming, and the thing about timing your sleep around your REM cycles sounds like a pretty good idea.
