I question the need to put unemployed people into community service. Surely the service they are doing could be converted into jobs? If there's a need for something to be done, then it should go to people who are working. That would create jobs, resolving the issue of unemployment to some degree.

Its a pissoff thats for sure. My sister's friend's live-in boyfriend has been on welfare for a year and despite her being pregnant is barely looking for a job because welfare is easier for him.

Fuck I hate welfare.

Im thinking more of a way to remove long term unemployed people who refuse to work, into employment.

I'd force people into work by forcing them to take the first job they're offered, on pain of removal of benefits. I'm not saying create public sector jobs to do community service work - there are plenty of private contractors out there to pay.
