It would be ridiculous if bad things only happened to people who aren't "innocent". Because nobody is truly innocent. Everybody in this world has hurt someone else in their lifetime and done other bad things.

The Holocaust didn't happen for "no reason", nor did it happen only because one group arbitrarily selected another group to kill based on religion.
The Jewish, as well as groups like gypsies and other traditionally poor minority groups were perceived to have a unique economic and social impact on the then financially destroyed Germany. The nation had been financially destroyed after World War I, and there were thousands of people looking for answers as to why they were suffering so much.
That's obviously a very basic version of the full story, but there was definitely a reason for all of this. A good one? No. But certainly one.

I actually heard that the reason we humans can NOT grasp an answer [why bad things hapen to good people] we are sensitive to others' pain and we can 'care.' Our action is our 'job.' Otherwise we would not feel anyting...

the aryan supremacy was a thing that germany could unite itself over and used it as an excuse to start genocide through the propaganda.
hitler rose to power through the promise of economic growth and delivered that. by the time he started rolling out the war machines and attacking places, he was already just as powerful as a dictator and even if the citizens wanted to do anything about it... what could they do? the nazi police and spetznaz were smart as fuck and had spies looking for people guilty of treason everywhere, they would find out.
the holocaust was an idea borne through the snowball effect - small stuff first, gradually getting more and more fucked up - that created a storm of shitty, deplorable human extermination
