I've transferred schools twice, both universities, and I'm 2/3 of the way towards an English Degree, 1/2 through a Secondary Education degree, and 1/4 of the way through a Business Administration (with a minor in Healthcare Administration) degree.   I just don't know what to do.  My dad wants me to stick with English, but I've really lost my love of English having studied it non-stop for three years now.  Education no longer appeals to me after testing those waters, and I like BA but... I'm lost when it comes to the required Economics classes.  That's why I switched majors from BA to English.... I got to the Macro and Micro courses and despite studying my ass off, tutors, online help, and taking more thorough notes than the book, I still failed each class with a 45%.  I don't get it.

I've taken the year off to work.. and now I'm really depressed seeing a ton of my friends graduating this week, thinking I would've been don with them, when most likely I'd still be flip flopping.  It made me realize how badly I want to be back in class but.. really... I don't know what major to stick with.

I have a passion for computers, building, networking, repairing, programming, etc., and my mom feels it would be best it I went back and got a degree in THAT field, which, at this point, sounds like a great idea considering the looks of the economy and that I don't get bored when I work with computers.

Sorry I've gone on so long... I just want advice from people.  Obviously none of you can tell me what I need to do with my life, but perhaps some of you have personal experiences with any of these majors, or can enlighten me on some statistics about the job market on what's more in demand?   I don't know, I'm just so lost... x.x help...

i recommend that you go to school as an undeclared major... take any of the general education classes that you have left to take and let your interests lead you... i changed my major a ton before i figured it out... its scary to think that what you major in determines the rest of your life.. but really WE determine our lives... so just go with it. you will figure it out as you go - take what you have to and let it lead to waht you want to :)

I changed my major back and forth, flip-flopped like a fish out of water. The best route I found was to take a variety of courses and see what I like and what I'm good in. I also considered which high-demand jobs I would be suitable for based on just a Bachelor's degree or whether I'd need further degrees. In the end, I couldn't stick to one major, I ended up doing a double-major. Don't limit yourself to trying to fit neatly into just one major, you may find your interests are diverse and can be captured by a double-major or adding in a minor.

Several of my friends currently are finishing their Bachelor's in computer science and programming, so I may be able to provide a bit of insight. At most universities, you'll need to take quite a few math courses, although chances are you probably won't need to use all of it for your computer courses. The only reason I can see for why many math courses are required is because computer programming is a high-demand area and it's a way to filter in only the "best" students.

I agree with your mom. The problem here is not that you don't know what you like, you either figured it out a bit late, or for whatever reason chose not to major in it.

I say finish your English degree, because you are the closest to being done with it and you don't have to do the Econ courses you aren't good at. What your Bachelors is in usually barely matters. At the same time start researching two main things about Masters degrees in computer science: 1) what you need to get admitted and 2) how you can get most of it paid for, ie. a job with tuition reimbursement, scholarship, etc.

Then you will have graduate work under your belt in a field you actually like, which is more valuable to your career, and I bet the friends who just graduated won't all have grad degrees right away so you'll feel better when you finish that before them!

Are you sure you will stick with a degree in IT? I am asking because you have changed majors so many times, who's to say you will not get bored of an IT major after some time? I think you need to take some time off and think about your interests, your long-term career goals, your strengths and personality traits. If you think you are suited for an IT career, then learn more about the various information technology degrees available and pick one that you think is the best fit for you.
