I think option one would be best because I think mods could abuse option 2.

part 1: option 2. it eliminates the extra step of the member reposting without anonymous.

part 2: option 1. the damage caused by abuse of anonymous can be completely reversed by marking it public, due to the fact that the topic still exists and the poster is "accountable". so there's no reason to punish them even if they're lying.

Here's the post I made about this topic in the moderator forum. I made others, but they're all quoting other moderators.

Our guidelines surrounding the anonymous feature are stupid. Members should be allowed to post whatever they want with the anonymous feature, given that (it seems to me) it was designed to eliminate the need for a secondary account. Moderators shouldn't be allowed to tell members when it's appropriate to feel embarrassed and when it's not. The ridiculous part about this situation is that it is not even prone to being severely abused, given that members are only permitted to use it a limited number of times a day.

I'm voting for option 1, because it seems like the option that is closest to what I ultimately want for the anonymous feature. I don't care if, regarding option 1, members can "abuse" or "get away" with it, because I don't view it as a problem in the first place.

I agree with this, especially the first paragraph.  I once had an anon reply trashed because some mod felt there was no need for it to be anon, when I was in fact disclosing something private about myself.

Second accounts are a poor choice as many people know who that member is.

I made an option 5

Option 5

Option 5:
Allow users the option to request a moderator mark their accidentally anon'ed topic as public. If the request is granted, it would mean you cannot abuse the feature and would not lead to further misconduct against your account. The member can let us know on their own, or when we trash it that they would like it to be restored as public. The final decision rests with the acting moderator. (This is to prevent a member from simply trying different moderators until it is reversed.)

And it was subsequently revoked!

Clearly the Mods aren't as efficient as the members. Since no one will explain their opposition to Option 2...

Option 1:

Allow users the option to have a moderator mark their accidentally anon'ed topic as public. This would mean you cannot that abuse of the feature was not intended and would not lead to further misconduct against your account. The member can let us know on their own, or when we trash it that they would like it to be restored as public. If a member is fine with their topic being public, it is no longer an abuse of the anonymous feature and therefore they cannot be warned or banned for this, regardless of the number of times it happens.

Link? I was under the impression that you were simply promoting the idea that "you cannot abuse [anonymous]" since a post can now be marked public.

Which is my opposition to option 2. I don't understand what you are getting it.

My opposition to option 2 is that it still allows moderation action to be levied against s member

If you cannot abuse 'anonymous', why is there a need for any "rule" concerning it?
