But keep in mind that LiveWire's resident KKK members and anti-Muslim God fearing mother fuckers are probably deterring a lot of members from sticking around, especially new ones. I know if I joined a site and the first thing I saw was a topic where members were vehemently supporting the case for racial profiling, I would be like fuck this and gtfo of here.

yeah this and the other issues the site has do deter people though what makes it worse is half of these folks who post that stuff aren't even like dumb teens but people in college and going into their 20's grown ass men and women 
It is pretty bad. Surprisingly bad. I do think there should be some limit on here, if only to put a good face on the site. You know. So people don't think we're some anti-Islam group, or a faction of the KKK.

thats tricky ground. It is absolutely 100% not ok to be racist towards an individual on lw. If you come into a thread and use racial slurs towards a person, it will be removed. It is much harder, however, to censor thought, and if someone holds racist beliefs, thats not against site guidelines. It isn't illegal in real life to be a racist, and it would be impossible to enforce if it was.

True enough. But somehow, none of the other sites I frequent have such a strong presence as LiveWire. It is not tricky to, at the very least, recognize when members are being incredibly vile without explicitly using racial slurs or direct insults and end topics that you would be uncomfortable with if they were taking place in, say, a public setting. But because LiveWire is somewhat anonymous, people who would otherwise hold their tongue in a public setting are allowed to express their "beliefs". And the moderators either do not notice, do not care, or do not have the balls to sit back and think "Hey. This would not be acceptable in a public forum, debate, or public discussion. Maybe it should not be acceptable here."
