I disagree with that.  Like I just said, this has brought attention to an issue that the team is somewhat split on.  Most mods agree that certain types of "mentions" or references to shock sites should or shouldn't be allowed.  The guidelines we have in place do not cover this, so it's being discussed...so that we can moderate this instance and future instances.

My guess is that a member doing this would have provoked similar discussion.  It generally takes instances like this to bring attention to grey areas in policy.

Forgive my pessimism, but it seems to me that there are enough Mods who don't like being held to a 'higher standard' to seriously address such a "minor offense".

We haven't even agreed whether or not this was an offense.  That's what the policy discussion is in regards to.

To my knowledge, we have never punished a member for something before it was even clarified as policy either.

Then why were their posts removed? What guideline was used as reason if there is no policy about it?

The mod who removed it believed that they violated guidelines.  There are other team members that do not feel this way.

A quick check on the guideline lead us to discover that it was "discretionary", which is more or less a way of saying that nothing has ever been officially decided.

And 'therein (as the saying goes) lies the rub'.

According to current policy, the acting moderator had a right to remove that post.  If it was the right decision or not is, in my eyes, pretty moot.  They have a reasonable argument for the removal itself, and it was within current policy.

It means that there is a contradiction of sorts in the requirements of the situation. "It's never been policy because we've never addressed it. We've never addressed it because it's never been policy. And if it affects us negatively, we won't like it."

I've not sure how anyone can say it has never been addressed.  It most certainly has.

And that guideline/policy is...?

"(Conclusion: Inconclusive. Current Stance: Linking to a shock site, or posting a shock image is never acceptable.  We differ on what to do if the user simply gives directions ("Go to google images, type in this...").  We have banned members for suggesting users type something into google images, so I'm not really sure what the current stance is regarding that.  Lets just call it discretionary.)"

Can I find that "officially" published somewhere on LiveWire?

Not unless you can access the moderator forum.

How can you enforce a guideline/policy that only Mods know about?
