It was supposed to be.. But it had design flaws that weakened its strength and the morse code in use couldn't tolerate 2 ships using the same frequency at the same time (ie if two ships were communicating with Cape Cernavral (sp) the noise from it would be deafening to the transmitter and would prevent messages such as ice warnings getting to surrounding ships.) <- providing my memory serves me right.
Also, wasn't the Bismarck was supposed to be unsinkable too?
