The entire history of human invention and thought is based upon this fundamental lynchpin of conflict between the perceived reality and utopian reality.

...between the ideal and the actual. I believe Derrida smil[es/ed] upon that duality.

I found it to be rather like looking at the remains of a particularly vicious head-on collision: aghast by the blood and twisted metal, but unable to tear my eyes away.

To the best of my memory, I don't believe that either director actually portrays the monster's impact, or the carnage. All that's seen is a the fall, then the scene skims to scurrying reporters and policemen and aghast citizens set against a vague, limp corpse in the background.

I was drawing a parallel, not making a recollection of the film. Silly man.

This is all very easy for Kong, but what options do we have as men?

Emo is the new masculinity. Didn't you get the memo?

Chaotic, virile, inspired, repressed, lonely, angry, inarticulate, emotionally stunted, irresponsible and passionate.

You know what King Kong always reminded me of?

Now, I'm sure that the fact that the plotlines are very similar adds to that, but I think your description works quite well for the Phantom.  King Kong is obviously not quite as intelligent, but proportionally I think they're quite similar so that set of adjectives describes them both in a way that is quite uncanny.

Of course, I don't really have a point, except that I suppose classifying it as an archetype is probably quite correct.

I guess that's what life is all about. Trying to stall the end of the game till the last possible minute. If you can't or won't make compromises you're going to be benched, to follow a similar analogy.

The only possible shred of hope you and others like you have is that you ain't an ape. As I already mentioned you need to make copmromises with society if you want to dance with her.

"We could not understand because we were too far and could not remember because we were traveling in the night of first ages, of those ages that are gone, leaving hardly a sign - and no memories. The earth seemed unearthly. We are accustomed to look upon the shackled form of a conquered monster, but there - there you could look at a thing monstrous and free."
    - Joseph Conrad, "Heart of Darkness."

What point were you trying to make here?

None. They quoted it in the film, and I like Heart of Darkness. It helps that it vaguely relates to the topic at hand, but that's more incidental than anything else.

Oh alright..

I don't like that book... it dehumanises the natives of that particular african country and presents everything from the point of view of the colonizer.

Oh, that's bullshit. I think a lot of the critiques of Conrad are entirely unsubstantiated. Frankly, I'm of the opinion that Heart of Darkness was a critique of colonialism, due to its essentialist view of human nature.

Huckleberry Finn uses the word "nigger" to make the novel more authentic. Not only that, the word brings something to the literature based on the setting of the book.I see nothing wrong with it.

What Flow Morphia Slow's post is adressing is quite different.
